“He’s my friend, yes. He’s a great kid. He’s writing his memoir, and we’ve been playing around with nail polish and talking about boys and dating. You should hear him, Rush. It amazes him that I have a group of out and proud gay friends and that we’re nurses and firemen and professional motocross racers. I just… I could see what Dean was saying. I get that you don’t want to be known as the gay racer, but you are a gay racer, and there are kids and people out there who need to see that. It’ll help them feel less alone in the world, help them see they can do and be anything. That they have the same opportunities as everyone else. He’s talked to me about that before…the need to see people like him and—”

“I’ll do it,” Rush cut me off.

“Huh?”

He shrugged, but it looked a little funny because of his sling and wince. “I’ll do it. You’re right. I need to speak to my manager first, but yeah.”

“Really?” I wanted to jump for joy. “I don’t want you to do it for me. This is your career, and you have to do what you feel comfortable with.”

“I’m not doing it for you. The world doesn’t revolve around you, ya know?”

“Well, I refuse to believe that.”

Rush laughed a rich, hearty laugh that made my stomach flip. Jesus, this guy was going to turn my world inside out. There was no doubt in my mind. “You’ll really do it?”

“Yeah…there will be rules, though, but you’re right. It’s important.” Rush paused, frowned. “Why didn’t I know about this kid? He’s obviously important to you.”

My eyes darted away. It was hard to look at Rush when he spoke to me so softly, with so much care. “Because he’s important to me,” I admitted. I wished I could use Trey’s name, he deserved that, but it was also a violation of his privacy. “And it’s not just you. No one knows about him.” Except Rush did now, didn’t he? I hated that stuff like this was so hard for me, that I kept myself so locked up. Most people wouldn’t notice. I played it off well. There was always a joke rolling off my tongue. I was confident in my looks and my body, which had taken a whole hell of a lot of work. But I didn’t know how to truly get close, how to let people in.

“I know now.”

“Yeah, you do.” Was it me, or were we getting closer? We were like magnets, unable to stay away from each other.

“Wait. Not even Beau?” When I shook my head, he grinned. It was a big-ass, ear-to-ear fucking grin.

“What?”

“Nothing.” Rush lifted his hand and cupped my cheek. “One of these days you’re gonna let me in. I’m going to get you to trust me.”

Didn’t he know I already trusted him? I didn’t want to, but I did. Those words wouldn’t come out, though, so I answered him with my mouth on his.

It was stupid, so fucking stupid, but I couldn’t stop myself, couldn’t hold back any longer. I wanted Rush like I needed to breathe. He did something to me. Tied me in knots. Made me crave him. Made me scream. I’d been trying to deny it for months. I’d tried to stop it, to make the right choice because I was so damn scared of losing what we had, but I couldn’t fight it anymore.

My tongue dipped into his mouth, and Rush sucked it before feeding me his own. He groaned into my mouth, and it was a delicious fucking groan that went straight to my cock. God, I wanted this. I missed it.

Rush pulled away, but not far, never far. Still, I wanted to tug him back to me. To meld our bodies together because fuck, I missed sex. I missed sex with Rush.

“We do this again, Red, and you’re mine,” he said against my lips, his breath warm on my skin. My heart jumped, my body tensed. “Shh. Don’t freak out. I’ll take care of you.”

He would. Logically, I knew that. Rush wasn’t the kind of man to hurt someone else on purpose, but that didn’t mean it couldn’t happen. Relationships ended all the time, and what would I do if I lost Rush?

“I’m not freaking out,” I lied.

“Mm-hmm. Sure, I believe you.” He grinned, still cupping my cheek and rubbing his fingers against it. “I’m gonna win you over, Lincoln Gray. Can we stop pretending I’m not?”

Aaaand that was it. I was done for. He slayed me. Jesus, Rush was fucking hot. “Cocky much?”

“With good reason.”

Yeah, yeah, he had a good reason.

I knew he was waiting for me, letting me make the decision, so I said, “You gonna kiss me again or what? My dick is getting a little soft, and my hole is hungry for cock.” It was the easiest way for me to answer him, to make it into a joke, but Rush saw. Rush knew me. He said if we did this, I was his, and I didn’t have it in me to fight us anymore.
