“Oh my God! You look great!” I glanced up at the sound of Linc’s voice as he led Trey and Tyson through the door and into the living room. Trey was currently cancer free, and all we could do was hope it would last. He wore a pair of tight jeans and a white crop top that I was pretty sure my boyfriend had bought for him. Tyson, who still worked with Cam, rubbed a hand over his shaved head as he glanced around the room.

“Hey, man. Thanks for coming.” I walked over and shook Tyson’s hand.

“Thanks for having us,” he replied.

I gave Trey a hug next, and saw his eyes wander around the room. There were a whole lot of gay couples here, which I knew really meant something to him. It was so damned important to live in a world where you saw yourself, where you saw people like you, happy people who were thriving; it let you know you could do the same.

“How’s the house coming along?” Linc asked. We had raised enough money for them to buy a house outright, begin to furnish it, and saved a little bit for Trey’s college education. Trey said it was the only time outside of his cancer diagnosis that he had ever seen his dad cry.

“It’s great. I picked out this really soft pink for the walls,” Trey replied.

“Guess who gets to paint it?” Tyson teased.

“You know I’ll help.” Trey smiled.

“I know you will.” Tyson put an arm around his son and pulled him close.

“And oh my God. You have a motocross track. I want to try and ride!” Trey added, and we all turned to look at him.

“No shit?” Tyson asked. “You’ve never shown an interest in sports before. You don’t have to feel obligated.”

He looked at his dad. “I know, but…I’ve beat cancer. That means I can do anything, and I want to do everything. I want to live. And like you always say, Linc, I don’t have to be only one thing or like only one kind of thing.”

Damned if I didn’t get a little choked up. “If it’s okay with your dad, we can definitely plan that. I’d love to teach you to ride.”

“Traitor,” Linc teased him.

Carter approached us. “Hey…so where’s your pretty friend with the dark-framed glasses?”

“He’s not going to sleep with you,” Linc said.

“Um…sixteen-year-old here,” Tyson added.

“Dad! We’ve had the talk,” Trey replied.

“He’s outside on the back patio,” I told Carter. “Minus the glasses today, but Linc is right.”

“And you don’t know me well, do you?” He blew us a kiss and walked away.

“Do you have anything to drink? Something hard,” Tyson asked, and we all laughed.

“Outside in the cooler,” Linc told him, and we went to the backyard.

Jace, Jude, Ash, Beau, and Kenny were playing a game of football. Mom was at the grill because my mom was fucking awesome.

“Holy shit. I can’t believe Ashton Carmichael is playing football in your backyard,” Tyson said.

I nodded that direction. “Go play with them. The teams aren’t even.”

Tyson didn’t have to be told twice.

Dean, Dax, and Sawyer were in the pool, Carter stripping to join them. He must have said something to annoy Sawyer because he rolled his eyes.

The interview with Dean was going live today, which was why we all got together. We’d put it off a bit because of everything I’d had going on. I’d been upset at first about missing the outdoor season this year, but I’d realized it was for the best. My career would wait, and it was nice to just focus on myself, my friends and family, and Linc.

We all hung out, played games, and ate, and then went inside at three when the article was going live. Everyone gathered in my living room, and we put the site on a projector so everyone could see.

“Whiskey Throttle: The Story of Supercross Racer Rush Alexander” by Dean Browning

When I pulled into Rush’s driveway, he and his boyfriend, Lincoln Gray, greeted me, and the three of us made our way to his state-of-the-art motocross track…

I smiled as I read. The article was everything I’d hoped it would be. Hopeful and positive to those in the LGBTQ community, but also showing that I was just me…just a man who loved racing and happened to love another man.

“It’s perfect,” Lincoln whispered to me.

And it was. Everything in my life was perfect. “I love you.”

“Aww, someone is feeling emotional,” he teased, then leaned over and kissed me. “I love you too.”
