And he didn’t want to control it. Not for a second.

Beau was always there for Eloise. He did the heavy lifting, drove her home, got her food and water, often it was a little milk. Rose had already told him that she wasn’t eating enough, so he always came with more food for her.

“What are you doing?” Rose asked, coming into his sitting room.

He hadn’t even bothered to put the light on. “Drinking whiskey.”

“You’re in a mood,” she said.

“It’s Halloween, what are you doing home?” he asked. There hadn’t been any kids stopping by his ranch this year, but he’d also not gone and gotten any candy.

“I had a feeling you were going to miss this opportunity to be with Eloise, and I decided to stay home so I could kick your ass back out there.”

“I’m not going to a Halloween party.”

Rose blew out a long breath. “Why do men have to make life so freaking difficult? Forgive me, Alpha,” she said, and then took his glass of whiskey away, throwing it in his face, before slapping him—not hard, but enough to get him to his feet.

His growl echoed around the room.

“You’re in love with Eloise Richards. You have been sneaking around with that woman, enjoying her, and now she is pregnant, carrying your son or daughter, and let me remind you, you fucked it all up. I don’t know your reasoning for doing so, and you know what, I don’t even care, the fact of the matter is, it happened, and now you’ve got to deal with the consequences. Now, get off your ass, and why don’t you use this opportunity to be with her?”

“How dare you!”

“How dare me? How dare you, doing this to the pack. Do you have any idea how we’re all feeling? Eloise is pack. You’re a miserable fucker, and you’re making everyone else suffer because of what you did, and guess what, none of us are liking it. Now, do us all a favor, get off your ass, go and win your woman. We’re not saying it’s going to be an overnight success, but it’s got to be better than you moping around here. Fix it.”

Beau wanted to yell at Rose. He wanted to tell her to get the hell out of his house, but the truth was … she was right, which he also hated. He didn’t want her to be right.

“She’s at Wayne’s bar,” he said.

“Good, then go.”

“You have to be in costume.” Now he felt pathetic. He’d not gotten a costume, or thought about crashing Eloise’s party. It was going to be one of the last times she had a party.

Rose took a deep breath and let it out before moving forward. She grabbed the seams of his shirt and tore them off his body. She did the same to the bottoms of his trousers, and then she added some claw marks around the pants. Next, she roughed up his hair.

“I’d punch you, but we both know that doesn’t scare you. There, you look like a man ravaged by a beast. Go and win her back and stop moping. You got yourself into this mess.”

There were so many things he wanted to tell Rose, but in the end, he just looked her in the eye and thanked her. Heading toward the door, he gripped the handle and opened it.

“For what it’s worth, I know Eloise is still in love with you.”

This made him stop and turn toward Rose.

“She tries to hide it, but there are times I’ve seen her look at you, and she may deny it, but she does like you being close.”

“That doesn’t mean she is in love with me.”

“She is. Trust me on this, she wants to be with you. All you’ve done is hurt her, but I think you can win her back.”

That was all he could hope for.

Chapter Eleven

Eloise was bored.

The party was fun and the music all Halloween-themed, but she stood in a corner, dressed in a sexy nurse’s outfit, as per Dorothy’s request. Her sister wouldn’t accept her in any other way.

She had tried to talk her out of it. Her stomach had started to show, but the outfit wasn’t too tight, at least that was what Dorothy told her, but she had her doubts.

Eloise held onto her soda with a death grip. The whole town knew about her quick, fleeting relationship with Beau, and everyone seemed to be keeping a wide berth from her. A few of the locals gave her a nod. Beau’s pack were at the party, and had gotten closer to her, giving her a greeting.

No one else would talk to her.

She couldn’t help but wonder if that was because of Beau and his reputation. Not that she hoped to find another man. The truth was, she was still very much hung up on Beau. It didn’t help that he seemed to be everywhere she turned. Obviously, he was not at the party. This was the first time she felt so completely alone. Ironic considering she was surrounded by people—but not Beau.
