“I’m not trying to, but it feels weird always being hungry.”

“You’ve got to feed that hunger. You’re eating for two.”

“Easy for you to say,” Eloise said, finishing her burger.

“I’ll go to the diner and get you some more food.” Rose turned, about to leave.

“Wait, hold on. Uh, three guys from your ranch stopped by.”

“Yeah?”

“They each got down on one knee, bowed their heads, and were kind of silent. Were they putting a curse on me?”

Rose burst out laughing. “You’re so cute. No, they weren’t cursing you. Wolves cannot and don’t curse anyone. They were swearing their loyalty to you as their new pack female.”

“What?” Eloise asked.

“It’s no longer surprising news. You’re carrying Beau’s baby, and within our pack, that means a lot. You’re pack now, Eloise. Your baby will be one of us, and that means you are as well.”

“But, what Beau said, and all those things—”

“Beau’s an ass, and I can say that about my alpha. He has been one, but I have a feeling that might change.”

“He hurt me, Rose.”

Rose moved a little closer. “I know he did, and I am so sorry. I know the pack isn’t happy with him, but I might want to caution you about kicking him out of your life for good.”

“Why?”

“Wolf pregnancies are … complicated. There might come a time when you’re going to need him.”

Eloise frowned as she looked toward her friend. “Complicated? In what way?”

“It’s nothing bad. Just certain passions are unleashed, and it makes people a little … crazy.”

“Passions?”

“Yes. Again, not too terrifying. You know, normal stuff that everyone experiences, only in a wolf pregnancy it’s heightened.”

“I feel you’re saying something without saying something,” Eloise said.

Rose nibbled the corner of her mouth and then forced a smile. “It’s sex, Eloise. Right now, you’re feeling all crappy because your body is going through some massive changes for the baby, but at some point in said pregnancy, that is all going to change. You’ve got to trust me on this, and when it does, well, it is going to have a big effect.”

“Sex?”

“Yes, you’re going to want it, badly, and well, you and Beau may not like this, but you’re both clearly meant for one another, and that is going to bring you together in a way you weren’t prepared for.”

Eloise didn’t know if she liked that. On the one hand, she was still a little pissed at him for treating her the way he had. Then again, she couldn’t deny the fact that even though he’d hurt her with his accusations, and he had, she still wanted him. She knew that was crazy, and she shouldn’t be having any feelings for him, but they were there.

Having sex with Beau wouldn’t be the end of the world, but Eloise knew, for her, it was going to mean a lot more.

She’d tried to fight it. It was a secret she had kept to herself, but she’d fallen in love with Beau Alpha, and all he’d done was break her heart.

One Month Later

Everyone knew to give him a wide berth.

Beau was used to people avoiding him for many different reasons. He wasn’t a nice person, only now with Eloise there but out of arm’s reach, he found himself even more unpleasant. He couldn’t help it.

He knew that what he was dealing with was no one else’s fault. He’d been the one to fuck it up with Eloise. He’d known she hadn’t been with another man, and yet he’d thrown out those accusations. They had absolutely no truth, and it pissed him off that he even said that shit.

His whole pack had gone to visit her, swearing their loyalty to her. Rose had already explained to him what happened, and how surprised Eloise had been. He’d not told his pack to accept her. All he’d done was fill in the blanks and told them that Eloise would belong to him one day.

At this very second, he didn’t have a clue when that was going to be. For the past month, he’d been close to her. After all his work was done on the ranch, which the pack helped him to complete, he went into town and often found her in the haberdashery she owned where she, her sister, and her mother worked.

He’d stand in the shop trying to be close and at the same time keep his distance from Eloise. The scent of her allowed his beast to calm. That was another problem he was having. Ever since she had told him she was pregnant and he’d acted that way, his wolf had started to get out of control. Fighting impulses to be close to her was getting harder with every passing second. He couldn’t deny it anymore, not that he wanted to in the first place. It was a bad time in his life when his wolf knew better than he did, but that was exactly the case.
