Owen insists I check out of the inn and move the few things I have with me to his house. It’s fast, but I keep telling myself it’s not like I’ve completely moved in.

We’re sitting on the sofa in his massive living room watching a movie one evening when I bring up finding an apartment in town and moving the rest of my stuff from LA. “Don’t waste money on a lease when you already spend every night with me.” He pulls me close and places a soft kiss on my forehead. “Just bring everything here and we’ll find someplace for it.”

“Don’t you think we should get to know each other a little more before we live together?” I lay my head back against his shoulder and stare up into his dark green eyes.

He runs his finger down my cheek. “I knew within five minutes of meeting you that I wanted you in my home and my bed forever. I don’t need any more time.”

“Oh.” In my heart and soul, I already know he’s my forever so why fight this?

“Then I guess I’ll make plans to move my stuff in here.”

The next few days fly by as Owen works overtime to get the large cider order for his parents’ memorial ready while I throw myself into the paperwork for my school. We barely have any time together, but we do spend each night curled up in each other’s arms.

When Owen heads to his hometown to finish up the preparations for his parents’ memorial, I fly back to LA to pack my stuff up for my move to Silver Spoon Falls.

A flash of hot pink catches my eye, and I turn to see my best friend dressed in one of her bright summer dresses rushing toward me. With her curly blonde hair and bright blue eyes, she’s my exact opposite. “I’ve missed you so much,” Maeve mutters as she tugs me close for a hug. After two delayed flights, I’ve been traveling for twelve hours and am about to drop.

“I told you to come with me to Silver Spoon Falls.” I hug her back. “I think you’d love it there.”

“We’ll see.” She smiles as I follow her out to her small red sports car. “Is that all you brought?” She points at my small carry-on I’m placing in her equally small trunk.

“I’m only going to be here for a few days, and I have a whole apartment full of clothes if I need anything else.” I shrug as she pulls out into traffic, and I close my eyes for what I’m sure will be a wild ride since driving isn’t Maeve’s strong suit.

“How’s Boris doing?” Her ornery cat is always up to some mischief.

“He’s pouting because Dr. Moss made me put him on a diet.”

“I’m sure he’ll survive it.” I can’t see the diet lasting very long. That seven-year-old Siamese cat has my best friend wrapped tight around his little paw.

“It might be touch and go.” Maeve laughs. “So, enough about my cat. Tell me all about the yummy brewery owner who put that constant smile on your face.”

“I’m in love.” It’s really the only thing I need to say. Owen freaking stole my heart the moment he walked up to me in that crowded Houston bar.

“I already knew that.” My friend laughs. “Now, tell me all about him.”

“He’s just freaking perfect.”

“You really are in love.” Maeve shakes her head. “I never thought I’d see the day you’d let a man get close.”

“You and me both.” After watching the nightmarish relationships our parents have, neither of us ever planned to let a man into our lives. In fact, we’ve always assumed we’d end up as the neighborhood’s crazy cat ladies.

After I drop my suitcase off at my apartment, I head over to Maeve’s to spend the evening with my best friend and her ornery cat.

We have plans to binge-watch the latest Housewives season and pig out on pizza from the awesome little hole-in-the-wall pizza joint down the road.

“Hello, Boris,” I coo as I walk inside Maeve’s living room to find the twenty-three-pound Siamese cat lounging across the back of the overstuffed aqua-blue sofa. “How have you been, big guy?” I attempt to pet him, but the little stinker arches his back to avoid my touch and jumps down off the sofa. He slinks over to the back door and turns to glare at me while he slowly licks each of his paws.

“I told you he’s been in a mood.” Maeve sits on the sofa and reaches for the remote. “Come on, we can start a Housewives episode while we wait for our pizza.”

We’re halfway through the first episode when the doorbell rings. “I’ll grab the pizza,” I tell Maeve as I hop up.

“The money is on the side table,” she calls behind me, but I wave her off.
