AJ turned to me and held out his hand. “I need your phone.”

I stared at him. That was my link to Levi. And if there was a tracker on it, then he’d come for me. AJ had a gun. I knew Levi had one, too, but what if AJ got to him first?

I slid my hand into my pocket and pulled out the phone, then handed it to him.

He took it, then rolled down the window and tossed it out. I looked at it lying there as tears began to burn my eyes until we drove away.

Who was Gina? What did she want with Levi?

“You need to lose the attitude, Gina. I just took a fucking killer’s woman for you.”

Who was a killer? Levi? He had killed a Vagos who was going to kill me. Calling him a killer was a little harsh.

The woman tossed her dark brown hair over her shoulder and gave AJ a smile. “I’m sorry,” she told him. “There is just a lot riding on us doing this right.”

AJ nodded, but I could tell he was still annoyed.

What had I done? I shouldn’t have left. I could have called the police to take me home. This was a mistake. My stomach churned with dread.

Thirty-Three

Levi

Leaning against the fence, I waited for Saxon to arrive before heading underground. He was getting better at the watching, but he wasn’t very good at the doing. We had to toughen him up some more. This was good practice. The bastard we had hung up down there was close to cracking. Fucking gangs. I hated them.

My phone rang in my pocket, and I figured it was Gage, asking where we were. When I pulled it out, the unknown number that showed up on the screen made me tense. None of us were using burner phones right now.

“Yeah?”

“Levi Shephard?” It was a man’s voice.

I straightened from my relaxed stance. “Yeah.”

“Ah, good. Just the man I need to talk to. I’ve got something of yours. She’s very safe, unharmed, and she will remain that way.”

“You’re dead,” I swore as my chest fucking seized up.

“Easy now. I did you a favor. There were Vagos waiting to take her from the hospital once your guy left. I had spotted them and explained it all to her. She hasn’t been hurt once.”

“Where is she?” I shouted as I headed to my car and took the phone from my ear, putting it on speakerphone to check her location.

“The phone has been disposed of,” he said, sending me into a fucking rage.

“WHERE THE FUCK IS SHE?” I yelled into the phone.

Not once in my life had I ever felt full-blown terror. I’d faced shit that most people would never be able to recover from. Not once had I been remotely agitated.

“I’m going to tell you. She’s yours to pick up. But first, I need something from you.”

My hands fisted as I tried to keep from giving him the details of how I would slice him open. I needed to get her safe first. Once I had her again and knew she was okay, then I’d go kill the motherfucker.

“What do you need?” I bit out.

“It’s actually what I need.” A familiar female voice came over the line, and I froze.

What the fuck?

“Gina?”

“Yes, lover boy. Long time,” she cooed into the phone.

Fucking hell. We’d let her live, and now, I was going to kill her. Maddy wasn’t saving Gina’s ass this time. No one was.

“You took what’s mine, Gina. Did you want to die?” I asked her coldly.

She let out a laugh. “You really claimed her? She’s so basic, Levi.”

“What the fuck do you want?” I growled.

“Levi,” Huck called out from a distance.

I turned to him and shook my head.

“I want freedom. I want to be able to show my face in town and not have to worry about my life. I want to see you. I miss you.”

“What the fuck?” I heard the man say in the background.

Huck was walking toward me.

“Where is Aspen?” I asked her as calmly as I could.

“I’ll text you our location. But you come alone. Don’t bring the boys. Especially not Blaise. First, you have to get him on the phone, assuring me that if I give her back to you, then I can have my life back.”

“What is it?” Huck asked, stopping in front of me.

“Gina,” I told him.

The understanding on his face was clear.

“Fine. I’ll talk to Blaise. He can call you while I’m on my way to get Aspen.”

“You see, I don’t trust that. I know how y’all work. You get an address when I get my freedom and some alone time with you.”

She wasn’t getting any fucking time with me.

“If you hurt her in any way, I will put a bullet in your head. This isn’t a threat. It’s the fucking truth.”
