I lifted the ring from the box and held it. “Aspen Chance, will you marry me?”
Her eyes shifted from the ring to me and back. It felt like a million years as I watched her.
She placed a hand on her chest. “That’s real, and you’re serious,” she whispered.
“I’ve never been more serious,” I assured her.
“You’re sure? You want me? Just me?”
I knew her doubts were there because I’d fucking put them there. I hated hearing them come from her mouth.
“It will only be you. In this life, and if there are more lives, then those too. Just. You. This is another only I intend to claim with you.”
Her hand moved to cover her mouth as she let out a sob, and then she smiled through her tears. “Yes.”
I stood up and took her hand from her mouth. “I need your finger, sweetheart.”
She let out a small laugh as I slid the ring onto her hand. It was a perfect fit. I’d thought we’d have to size it, but no. It had been made for her.
“It’s beautiful,” she said with awe in her voice, then lifted her eyes to mine. “I never imagined you, Levi Shephard. In all my fantasies, I never imagined you.”
I brushed my thumb over her lips. “Your imagination needs some work then,” I told her before covering her lips with mine.
All my mistakes had led me here. I was the luckiest son of a bitch I knew. No one deserved Aspen. But she loved me. Even if I wasn’t worthy of her. She was mine. No one, not even fate, would take her away from me.
“First and only,” I whispered against her lips. “For both of us.”
