Skyler took my hand once more and gave it a squeeze. “Okay. I see how important this is to you.” I thanked him with a kiss to his knuckles. “But you haven’t seen this Remy dude in a long time. What makes you so sure you can trust him?”

It was a fair question. “I know I can trust him with my life, and more importantly, with yours. Remy is my closest friend. I have known him for many centuries. I know his heart; it is much like my own. We have shared many of the same trials, prejudices, and needs.”

“Hold the damn phone,” Skyler grumbled. With my free hand, I lifted his device from where it rested, but I soon figured out that wasn’t what he meant when he pulled the car off of the road and stopped. His eyes were wide and angry when he spun to face me. “This doesn’t sound like just a friendship. Were you two fuck buddies?”

“I…I don’t understand.”

He clapped his hands with each word when he asked, “Did…you…put…your…cock…in…him?”

“Oh.” Understanding hit me, but apparently I did not answer quickly enough, as Skyler’s gaze turned even angrier. He was beautiful, but he could also look terrifying. I loved it. “Never.”

“Good.” He rested his head against his seat before scrubbing his hands over his face. “I’m sorry for lashing out. At the hotel, I told you I didn’t care that you’d had encounters, and that’s true. But the thought of meeting a guy you’d been with after hearing you gush about how great he was…I just couldn’t handle it. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”

I knew what was happening to him, though I found it to be perfectly right; he was falling in love. Though it was baseless, his jealousy made me giddy. But it was important to put his mind at ease.

I peeled away his hands and cupped his cheek to gently turn his face towards me. “Remy is like a brother to me.” I was always closer to him than any of my family.

“I'm glad you have such a good friend.” His eyebrows furrowed again when he added, “But if I see him put one more-than-friendly finger on you, he's getting a wooden stake right through the dick.”

“That's more than reasonable,” I agreed, “But I assure you that won't happen. Like me, Remy waited for centuries to find his beloved. I hope that he has found his happiness, as I have found mine.” I brushed my thumb across his cheek, drawing a pretty smile to his lips.

“Let's go find out. But first, I need a kiss.”

I happily leaned in to grant his request, taking his plush lips with mine and kissing him until he was breathless. When I pulled away, I could smell his arousal in the air. Skyler stared at me for a moment and I asked, “What are you thinking?” I could only hear his thoughts when he spoke to me directly.

“I'm thinking of pulling a U-turn and taking you back to the hotel.” Before I could agree it was a wonderful idea, Skyler released a long breath. “But I know you need to eat.” I begrudgingly nodded, and he pulled his car back onto the road.

We followed the spoken directions of his phone, which led us out of New Brunsford and into the neighboring town of Harriston. Its buildings were small and quaint; a stark contrast to the city we left behind.

The closer we got to Remy’s home, the more excited I became. When we finally reached our destination, the brick home was nearly as I remembered it. The only exceptions were the ivy which now climbed up one wall, and the updated windows.

When Skyler stopped the car, we both climbed out. Any worry I had about the possibility of Remy no longer residing here fluttered away when I breathed in his scent. I took my mate's hand in mine and my heart raced as we walked along the path to the home's entrance. I was anxious to see my friend and catch up.

I raised my hand to knock, but the door opened before I touched it. Remy surely heard us approaching. When my eyes landed on my friend's face, a thousand memories flooded my mind. He looked exactly as I remembered; tall and broad like me, with cropped dark blond curls and light green eyes.

Those eyes were wide as they quickly studied my face. “Viggo? Is it really you?” I nodded and he pulled me into a tight embrace.

I wrapped one arm around his back, but after only a few moments, Skyler pulled me back. “Okay, buddy boy, that's enough,” he warned, glaring at Remy through narrowed eyes.

My friend blinked, seemingly noticing Skyler for the first time. “Who is this?”

I stood up straighter and proudly announced, “This is my beloved, Skyler.” Remy’s face broke out into a wide grin. “He saved me.”
