With Ghost, I didn’t know what to say or what to expect, but I had the feeling this was going to be the best sex of my life.

He reached up and brushed my hair from my face. That simple touch sent heat racing through me, but I shivered when he ran his thumb over my lower lip.

“You’re as nervous as one of your wild horses, aren’t you?”

“Are you saying I shouldn’t be nervous around you?”

He grinned. “No. I’d never say that.”

Fuck. What had I gotten myself into?

“There’s an empty cabin about a mile that way.” He pointed to the south. “It would be the perfect place for us to use. Unless you prefer the hard ground. I’m not opposed, but…”

“I know the cabin you’re talking about.” Grant had fixed it up, hoping one of the men from his platoon would move into it soon, but Ghost had no reason to know any of that. Just how closely had he studied the land around the ranch?

Ghost studied me intently. “You don’t like that I’ve been spying on you and your brothers.”

“No.”

“And yet you’re here anyway.”

I exhaled. “I am.”

“How about I give you a chance to have your revenge?”

“What do you mean?” I wanted to pretend I could take him in a fight, but unless a contest between us involved horses or bulls, I doubted I had a chance in hell of besting him.

“You’re going to run to the cabin. If you get there before I catch you, you can decide what you want to do to me.”

“And if you catch me?”

His smile was pure predator. “Then I get to do whatever I want with you.”

“But aren’t we… I mean, I thought…” Shit I sounded like an idiot. This wasn’t me, at least not the me I’d become on the rodeo circuit.

“You thought I was going to fuck you until you couldn’t think, couldn’t breathe?”

“Um… yeah.” Jesus, he was making me painfully hard.

“That’s going to happen, but what happens first or afterward… that’s up for debate.”

“I don’t have a key to the cabin.”

Ghost chuckled, the low sound vibrating through my body. “I don’t need a key to get in.”

Of course he didn’t.

“I don’t know about this.” I hated the edge of fear in my voice. I was at least as turned on as I was scared, probably far more so, but was Ghost sane? He wasn’t safe, I knew that, but how far would he go to make sure he got what he wanted.

He cupped the side of my neck and stroked my throat with his thumb, brushing over the pulse point.

“Your heart is racing.” He looked down very deliberately. “But your cock knows what it wants.”

“Yeah, but it doesn’t make the best decisions.”

He smiled. “Tonight isn’t about good decisions.”

That was for damn sure.

“Don’t tell me you wouldn’t like to be the horse to my wolf, that you don’t love the idea of me catching you, making you my prey, forcing you to give in to what I want, what you want, what you know will be so good for you.”

“Oh my God. You could quit the FBI and just do this for a living.”

“Chase hot men, then have my way with them?”

“Yeah, that or just talk like this. People would pay a fortune.”

“And I’m offering it to you for free.”

“I…” With him so close, I could hardly think.

“Do you want to do this?”

“Have you chase me?”

“Any of it?”

I chewed my lower lip as I considered for a moment. “Yes.”

“Then go!” He smacked my ass, and I took off in the direction of the cabin.

I wanted to think I had an advantage because I lived there, but I’d only had a few weeks to learn the lay of the land, and I had the sense he was a damn good spy.

I glanced over my shoulder and saw he was close. Too close.

I sped up, running like I really was a terrified animal.

GHOST

Rogue ran in and out of the trees, trying to shake my pursuit, but I’d studied this route well. This was a rigged game, but I loved watching him run, seeing him stumble, gaining on him enough to hear how hard he was breathing. He was determined to get away. Was he scared or just out for revenge?

I didn’t really care. All I wanted was for him to make this real and to wind himself up so once I caught him, he was going to be so full of adrenaline that going from fear and anger to raw need would only take seconds.

He was a beautiful man, but there was much more than that to my attraction. The way he moved, the way he talked, the way he looked at me, everything about him called to me.

I pushed myself to move faster. I needed to have him, to run my hands all over his body, to lose myself in him. I’d been working nonstop for way too long. This was going to be an epic release of tension.
