Yikes. That stung. “I get that, but unfortunately for you, I’m needed here.”

“We killed one of your agents, but you still want to work with us?”

“Brandon’s death is the last thing anyone is going to care about. You solved a problem for us.”

“Wow. That’s fucking cold,” Rogue said. I didn’t get the impression that made him like me any less. He was the last man I should pursue, but he would be so much fun. A little bit—no a lot—of pleasure in the middle of an impossible assignment with old wounds brought back to the surface. Was I really going to turn down the offer in his eyes?

I forced myself to focus on Grant again. “Do we have a deal?”

His look let me know he was merely tolerating me. I’d lost his trust. That was expected, but it hurt. “You think I’m stupid enough to agree to anything with the feds without clear parameters?”

More tedious discussion led to Grant agreeing to talk to me privately. We both had information that would benefit the other. Before we left the conference room, I gave Rogue another lingering glance. He never looked away, and when our eyes met, his smile told me I’d read him exactly right. Negotiating was my least favorite part of the job, but now I had something to look forward to.

Grant might not want me there, but I would be back. Rogue was one conquest I wouldn’t back down from.

ROGUE

As Rhys followed Ghost and Grant out the door, he gave me a look that let me know he knew what I was thinking, and he was absolutely going to cockblock any attempts I made to get to Ghost before he left the area.

Ghost would be escorting the man who’d betrayed us to our enemies to a holding facility. Did Rhys really think I was going to slip out the back door, and what? Hide in Ghost’s car and pop out when he was on the road? Tell him to leave the prisoner cuffed while we went at it? To be fair, in different circumstances, I might do that, but the situation was too serious for me to cause trouble, not that Rhys or Grant would think I’d matured enough to recognize that. I just had to hold on to the hope that Ghost would be back, and something told me he would be.

After a week with no sign of him, I’d given up on seeing Ghost again now that he’d helped us deal with the Brandon situation and we’d taken out Jacob’s ex as well. I’d spent some miserable days recovering from an injury, but I was finally back to work in the barn.

My phone buzzed, and when I looked at the screen, my breath caught. It was Ghost. Call me.

How had he gotten my number? My heart pounded. I glanced across the barn. Rhys had been focused on grooming Pumpkin, but now he was looking at me like he knew I was up to something. I never wanted to give up the bond we had as twins, but sometimes, I wished I could turn it off temporarily.

“What’s up?”

I shook my head. “Nothing.”

Rhys shook his head. “You really think you can get away with that?”

“I got a text from a… rodeo friend. It just surprised me. I’m going to go call him.”

“Ri, tell me the truth.”

“I’m fine. Really.”

“I know you’re not telling me everything, but go on.”

I blew him a kiss, walked out of the barn, and waited until I was out by the pasture fence before I called Ghost.

When he answered, I remembered how much I liked his voice. It wouldn’t take much dirty talk from him to have me coming in my pants. It had been way too long since I’d fucked anyone. I loved the ranch, but I did miss the sex life I’d had on the circuit. Not the people themselves maybe but how easy it was to get off whenever I wanted to.

“It’s Rogue. How did you get my number?”

“I have connections. If I want information, I get it.”

Damn, that was hot. “And you wanted me?”

He chuckled. “I think you know the answer to that.”

“Where are you?”

“I can’t give my precise location, but I’m not too far from the ranch.”

He must be on an assignment. I wanted more details, but I didn’t bother asking. I’d dealt with my brothers long enough to know I wouldn’t be able to talk him into saying more.

“Meet me tonight?”

Did I dare? What did I even know about Ghost? Grant and Rhys had been angry with him, but they’d also trusted him enough to agree to work with him.

Since when did you need your brothers’ approval to get laid?

Since they’d come back, took on this ranch, and brought me in. We had to work together to stay safe. What if Ghost wasn’t who we thought he was? What if I put everything at the ranch in jeopardy just so I could fuck him.
