If the kiss had been a vague promise of pleasures to come, what had happened in the shower had sent a message as clear as the glass in Zolt’s aquarium.

Leo was desired.

And had no idea what to do about it, because he wasn’t gay. He didn’t really consider himself bisexual either. Apart from the one fumble with a boy when he was a teenager, he’d never swerved that way. He made a point of never watching gay porn, and most of all, he had a life plan that involved a wife and children, not an inked-up land pirate with a taste for cock.

So he’d rejected Zolt again despite being beyond flattered that Zolt had come all the way down to Hawk Springs to seduce him. He’d made sure Zolt understood nothing would happen between them. That he was straight.

Only that a part of him had expected Zolt would put up a fight. That he’d get Leo’s number and text him illicit shit. That he’d show up at the bar one night and watch Leo from the other side of the room.

Which was ridiculous, and Leo knew that much.

What did he expect from a gay man who flirted with any guy who caught his eye? Zolt could never offer the things he wanted, even if Leo was a tiny bit gayer than he’d thought.

“You look gloomy. Maybe it’s time to forget about her and set your sights on someone else,” Rain said, parking her ass on the bar stool next to Leo’s. She clinked her beer bottle against his and picked up some of the nuts from the counter before dumping them into her mouth.

Leo groaned and had a big gulp of beer to give himself time to think. “I don’t think I’m ready. I’m still too bitter.”

He looked around the large room with red paint on walls and black furniture. His brothers mingled with women, a stripper was getting ready for a performance on the pole, and beer after beer was being served at the bar. This was the life he knew and understood, yet he couldn’t have felt more alienated.

Even if Rain grasped his dilemma and kept the secret to herself, he didn’t feel like talking to her about something he didn’t comprehend himself. Because what could she advise him? ‘It’s okay to be gay or bisexual. Go and experiment’? As sexist as it was, their sister’s lesbian identity was not treated the same way as male homosexuality. The guys were open enough that it wasn’t an issue when an associate like Zolt was gay, but a brother? An MC member? No fucking way.

Rain sighed and spun around so she faced the pool table where Mike was entertaining a busty Lady Gaga wannabe in extravagant stiletto heels. “I know you won’t like hearing this, but you two really didn’t have enough time to get to know each other. And how did you imagine your life together? When I alluded to stealing that Coffin Nail MC bike, she didn’t know what to say. She was uncomfortable. How would she fit into our family?”

Leo groaned. The last thing he needed now was having that massive Amanda scab scratched. “I don’t know. I imagined I’d be working here, and she’d be at our home, and club business wouldn’t touch her. Is it really so strange that I want to start a family? I want a responsible woman who I can build a life with. Excuse me if that sounds boring.”

Rain gave a choked laugh, but the smile on her lips didn’t reach her stormy eyes. “You can’t be serious. If you want a responsible woman, how about you get a responsible job yourself? Sorry to break it to you, but the kind of girl you’re talking about isn’t going to be interested in you or any of our brothers. Well, maybe with the exception of Shane.”

Because Shane worked in a store in Reno and had nothing to do with club matters. Of course.

Leo chewed on that uncomfortable truth, hating the little voice telling him Amanda wouldn’t have helped him dispose of a body. Ever. No, she’d have called the cops, even if they’d already been married. He glanced at Mike, who upped his flirting game by juggling five balls. And the ridiculous thing was that it would surely get him laid.

“Look at that clown,” he grumbled, eager to change the topic.

“He’s having fun. Unlike you,” Rain said and nudged him with the tip of her boot. “Maybe if you looked for a girl you liked instead of ‘wife material’, you would be happier too.”

“I’m gonna tell you something, but if you laugh at me, I will strangle you here and now.”

Rain pressed her lips together, as if she already anticipated having to hold in laughter. “Shoot.”

“I’ve never been in love,” Leo said, crushed with the defeat of that admission. He liked the girls he’d been with. They were either sexy, or fun, or nice, but he’d never really felt the kind of wild tornado of emotion that had made Rain steal Mona from her wedding, that had made Jack propose to Trixie within a month after they’d started dating, that made Mom and Dad fuck like lovesick teenagers after a lifetime together.
