And it was nuts.

But also kind of sexy.

Urgh, Greer. You’re messed up.

“He shouldn’t have been staring at her like that,” Hack told her.

“Damn straight,” Razor said.

Where was that smile and southern drawl now? He sounded dark and dangerous.

“All of you are crazy. He stared at my ass for a few seconds. Probably saw how bony it is and thought how he’d seen better. Poor guy didn’t deserve to be threatened.”

They all frowned at her.

Oh shit.

“Maybe we should get going,” she said hastily, wanting to change the subject. “I want to see Livvy and the boys.”

She only had tomorrow with them before they all had to leave. It wasn’t enough time.

“All right. It’s getting cold, and I don’t want you getting a chill. That’s a decent jacket you’ve got, though. And boots.” There was a question in Aidan’s eyes.

“Hack made me go shopping,” she muttered.

“She didn’t even have a jacket with her,” Hack grumbled.

Aidan gave Hack, then her, a suspicious look. “Yeah, all right. Well, thanks again, man. I have her now.”

Hack looked like he wanted to say something, and she waited for it. Was he going to insist on seeing her again? Boss her around some more? Tell her that he wanted a date?

Idiot.

Of course, he didn’t do any of those things. Instead, he just nodded and headed to his truck, pulling out her bags and putting them in her car.

“Come on, I’m going with you,” Aidan told her. “Duke dropped me off. Razor was at our place, so he decided to come for a ride. I’ll drive back with you.”

“See you guys.” She waved at them as they climbed on their bikes.

“They look so badass,” she said to Aidan as they started up their bikes. Hack got in his truck with a brief wave.

That didn’t hurt.

Nope, she hadn’t expected anything more from him.

“Yeah, we are pretty badass.”

She made a scoffing noise. “Sure you are, Grandpa. When was the last time that you weren’t in bed by ten?”

“Hey, you try raising three boys and see what time you roll your tired ass into bed.”

A sense of sadness filled her. Kids just weren’t something she could imagine herself having.

“I don’t need children when I have three adorable nephews, anyway,” she said brightly. “And maybe more on the way?”

“Whoa. Don’t go putting that out into the universe. Livvy and I have got our hands full at the moment. Wyatt doesn’t just walk, he runs. Buster is a trouble magnet, and Ethan is . . . well, he’s an old man.”

She had to grin. “And you adore them all.”

“I sure do.”

“I love that you have them in your life, big brother. You deserve all the happiness.”

“And so do you,” he said seriously.

“Where are my keys?” she mumbled. “Wait, Hack had them.”

“He gave them to me.” Aidan held them up.

“Why didn’t he give them to me?”

“Because he knew I’d be driving.”

Rats.

They walked to her car and stood, staring at it.

“This car shouldn’t have made it as far as it did. What were you thinking, Greer?”

“I was being spontaneous.”

He shook his head as they climbed into the car.

“Greer,” he groaned.

“What?”

“Have you lived on junk food the entire trip?”

She glanced around. Oops. She probably should have cleared her car out before Hack drove in it.

“You know that I stress-eat.”

“Yeah, but when you stress-eat, do you have to choose junk food?”

“You can’t stress-eat carrots or celery sticks. It’s a rule. It has to be either filled with carbs, fat, or sugar.”

“You’re going to die of a heart attack or get diabetes, or your teeth will all rot.”

She rolled her eyes at his dramatics.

Damn, she’d missed his pessimistic ass.

“Is Cash going to be at your place when we get there?” she asked nervously.

Aidan grunted.

Great. She knew what that meant. It was a no, but he didn’t want to say it and disappoint her.

She sucked in a breath. “What’s going on? He sounded so weird over the phone. Where has he been?”

“Unfortunately, you know as much as I do. Which is fuck all. He won’t say where he’s been or what happened, or what he’s planning on doing now or even if he’s safe. Just keeps telling me not to worry.”

“It’s like he doesn’t know you at all.”

Aidan reached over and squeezed her thigh. “Good to have you back, Squirt.”

She couldn’t say the same. Not yet. But she knew he understood.

Greer didn’t think she’d ever been this exhausted in her life.

“How do you do this? Like . . . every day?” She stared over at Livvy with a new sense of respect.

Livvy giggled. “It’s not like this every day. Buster and Ethan are usually at school. And Wyatt goes to daycare while I’m at the salon.”

“You’re not even human, are you?”

“It’s a lot easier now that I have Sav,” Livvy said with a sweet look on her face. “He makes everything better.”
