“Yeah, sure, I remember,” I mumbled as I stepped inside behind him.

He motioned toward the hallway. “He’s normally asleep by the time I get home, and he’d be totally cool with us watching TV.”

“Awesome,” I replied around a thick throat as I looked around the spacious living room with its tan couches and pop art on the walls. There was a piano against one wall, and I tried to remember if he’d said Seth played or not. “It’s, uh, really nice.”

“Seth definitely has an eye for decorating,” he replied, still looking a bit sheepish, and I wondered if he regretted asking me up. “Why don’t you have a seat, and I’ll get us something to drink.”

I sank down on the comfy couch, feeling a bit out of sorts that I was in Jesse’s apartment in the middle of the night, and though I usually needed time to chill out after a weekend shift, it was normally in my own bed with my laptop. Were we really doing this?

Jesse handed me a bottled water and the remote. “How about you search for something to watch while I change?”

I nodded, still a bit shell-shocked, and watched him head down the hall to the bathroom. When I pulled my head out of my ass, I turned on the wide screen and clicked all around because of course they had satellite TV and hundreds of channels. I finally settled on a popular blockbuster movie, not exactly sure what Jesse would like.

He walked back in the room with a freshly scrubbed face, a white thermal shirt, and pink flannels with rainbow unicorns. I couldn’t help the laugh that jumped out of my mouth.

“What?”

“I didn’t realize we were having a pajama party,” I replied as I looked him over. In that getup, he looked a lot younger but still hot as hell. In fact, I was beginning to realize that Jesse didn’t ever look bad. Maybe a bit over-the-top and ridiculous, but he was still fucking adorable, and unfortunately, exactly the type of twinky guy I’d always been attracted to. Fucker.

He scoffed and placed his hand on his hip. “What do you wear to bed?”

I looked down at myself. “Usually just my underwear.”

He smirked. “Well, then join the party.”

I chuckled, even though the idea of it perked my dick right up. “Hell no.”

When I realized he was staring at me, I sobered. “What?”

“Nothing.” He waved his hand. “I just like to see you smile.”

“Yeah, well, don’t get used to it,” I muttered, falling too easily into our pattern, and he smirked.

“Don’t get me wrong. I like you grouchy and hateful too. Unfortunately.”

“I’m not hateful,” I grumbled.

“You told me you hated me,” he countered.

I rolled my eyes. “You said it first.”

That settled, he pulled the blanket from the arm of the couch and sank down beside me, wrapping me up in warmth. Between the afghan and his flannel pajamas, it was almost too much.

“Ooh, I’ve been curious about this movie,” he remarked, seemingly content with my selection, and as we settled back to watch the movie, I realized it’d been so damned long since I had this. This quiet buzzing in my stomach from just hanging with someone.

As the movie went on, it felt much like it did at the theater the other night as our thighs and shoulders rested together. I wanted to touch him, either to curl him in my arms or jerk him off, I didn’t know which, but my pulse definitely had trouble settling into a steady rhythm.

Christ, I felt like a teenager with a crush. Or a man with a raging boner and too little sex in my life. I didn’t want to read too much into this—it was simply the physical reaction of being close to an attractive guy. Who just happened to be wearing unicorn pajamas. I bit my lip, hiding my smile, and tuned back into the movie.

But as if he could read my mind, I felt him push closer, like maybe he was trying to get a reaction from me. Unfortunately, my cock was enjoying the contact way too much.

“You’re a cuddler, aren’t you?” I groused as he squirmed beside me.

“How’d you guess?” He batted his eyelashes. “Yeah, I love it. Seth does too. We snuggle all the time.”

“Your roommate?” I looked behind me to the hall as if he’d suddenly appear. For some reason, the idea of it didn’t sit well with me. “Are you guys—”

“No way. Just good friends, trust me,” he replied, and it sounded like there was a story there. Heat blazed a trail across my cheeks. “Is that jealousy I detect?”

“Hell no. Why would I be jealous?” I scoffed, though I couldn’t deny that I was feeling something. And as I tuned back into the show, I tried to unpack that a little. Maybe it was because Jesse seemed like a guy who couldn’t be pinned down, and I wondered if he’d ever been in love or in a serious relationship and what that might look like. Whoa. Danger, Will Robinson. Hell no, I wasn’t going there. Pure curiosity was all that was. Besides, been there, been burned.
