“He’s in plain clothes, so I thought I’d make sure.”
Elijah grins. “I’m sure he changed so he wouldn’t scare anyone in the club.”
Mike nods. “Good thinking. I’ll bring him in here if that’s okay?”
Elijah glances at me. “Petra?”
“It’s okay.” I love that he checks with me to make sure I’m comfortable.
Mike leaves and returns a few seconds later with the man who must be Chase. He has dark brown skin and dark eyes that twinkle when he smiles just like Elijah’s. It must be a Daddy thing.
Elijah helps me sit up straighter on his lap, but he keeps one hand around my waist, pinning me to him. He shakes Chase’s hand. “Thanks for coming. This is Petra. She’s the one who got attacked in the parking lot a while ago.”
Chase pulls up a chair so he’s facing us. “I’m so sorry that happened to you, Little one.”
I lick my lips. “It was scary.”
“How about you tell Chase everything you can remember, Baby girl?”
I take a deep breath and start from the beginning, making sure to describe the man who attacked me, including what he was wearing and what little I could see of his face.
Chase takes notes, but he also uses his phone to record my story. His brow is furrowed while I talk, and he nods often. “I’m so glad you weren’t injured worse, Little one. Next time, let the mugger take your bag. Things can be replaced. Your life cannot.”
Elijah pats my thigh. “I’ve already given her that lecture.”
“Good.” Chase hands Elijah one of his business cards. “Tuck this in her bag.” He turns to me again. “If you think of anything else, call me. It’s hard to pick up a mugger, but you never know what small detail might help us catch him.”
“Thank you,” I tell him as he stands and shakes Elijah’s hand again before leaving.
Elijah pulls me closer and sets his lips on my forehead, holding them there for a long time. When he releases the tight hold, he still keeps me close, rocking me without words, his hand sliding back under my dress to pat my bottom.
Part of me wishes he would kiss me, but I don’t ask him to. Besides, it would just make it harder when this night is over. Who knows when I’ll see him again? He doesn’t come to the mainland that often.
I close my eyes and let my body sink into the strong, warm, sexy arms and enjoy every single moment I have with this Daddy who is so attentive and perfect in so many ways.
Instead of letting myself feel sad about the fact that he can’t be my forever Daddy, I remind myself that this time with him has been precious, and I’ll have this memory for the rest of my life. It was totally worth it.
My one-night Daddy.
Chapter Three
Two weeks later…
“Hey, Petra. How are you?” Misha asks me as I enter The Dungeon on a Friday night.
I’m shaking as I take a deep breath and look over my shoulder. “I’m good,” I lie.
She comes around the counter and takes my hand. “You’re trembling. I don’t think you’re very good,” she counters. “You ran into the club from your car, didn’t you?”
I nod. “It’s no big deal.”
“I’ve told you to call when you arrive. I can send someone out to walk you in.”
I take a deep breath and blow it out, squaring my shoulders. “It’s okay. I’m brave.”
Misha frowns. “It has nothing to do with being brave. You got mugged in the parking lot. Everyone understands why you’d be a bit nervous about walking from your car to the club now.”
She’s right, but I don’t want to be a bother to anyone. I want to get over my fear and move on. I can’t let some thug who tried to take my bag steal my power. I must power through the scary feeling and conquer it.
“I’m going to talk to Mike about escorting people into the club all the time. It’s just safer that way. If it hadn’t been you, it could have been any one of us.”
I shrug as if it’s no big deal. “I’m sure Mike has enough to do other than to stand in the parking lot and wait for silly Littles to arrive.”
“It’s not just Littles, Petra. Other people get scared in dark parking lots too. I know several people have been nervous ever since you were attacked.” She finally releases my hand and rounds behind her desk. “Oh, Elijah is here tonight. He was asking about you.”
I suck in a breath. Elijah is here? That should not make me feel quite as warm and fuzzy as it does. I haven’t seen him since that night. I’ve thought about him a lot, but I haven’t contacted him. It would be foolish. Even though I had an amazing evening with him, it didn’t change the fact that he lives on Regression Island and I don’t.
