“That’s not it. Hear me out. What if I don’t like it? I mean, that was my way of spending time with Ven when I was younger. It’s her thing more than mine. I haven’t ridden in years.

“I had to sell my bike when I left. I had no place to keep it in New York. I don’t want to commit to something and not hold up my end or hate what I do every day.”

“Unlike music.” He rubs his hand against his face in frustration.

I love him for trying to work this out. He already started to help me potty train AJ. I believe he thinks this will determine whether I stay or not.

I tilt my head to the side and study him. They couldn’t drag me away from this man. I’ll stay home and homeschool AJ before I take off to head back to New York.

“Babe—”

My words are cut off by his ringing phone. He picks it up and looks at it. A frown comes to his face.

“I need to take this. Give me a minute.”

“No, AJ, let Daddy go take his call. Come here.”

AJ whimpers. Ant squats to kiss his head and murmurs something to him. AJ whines and drags himself over to me as his father leaves the room.

“Don’t worry. He’s coming right back.”

He whines a little more. I think it’s time for him to take a nap. I bring him into my lap and hold him to my chest. After reaching to play with my earring for a bit, he passes out.

The doorbell rings and I curse to myself. I go to answer, but Ant comes rushing back through the house, heading for it. I’m surprised at first because he doesn’t know AJ has fallen asleep to know to rush for the door.

Now I’m curious. Still on the phone, he returns with a little group behind him. He points them to our dining room, and they begin to set up their things.

He hangs up his phone and comes over to sit beside me with a smile on his face. I bite my lip as I look him over. From here, I can see they’re setting up food.

“What are you up to?”

He shrugs. “I may have planned a date. Too bad he passed out. I had them make him nuggets in the shapes of cars. They were late. That was the owner letting me know they’re sending over dessert for the inconvenience.”

I smile so hard at him. “Ant, there’s something I wanted to say.”

“Mr. Knight, if you don’t mind. We’re done. Can you please make sure it’s to your liking and sign off for us?”

“Sure,” he says then turns to peck my lips. “Leave him here. We can still see him from the table.”

I toss a few pillows down and settle AJ on the couch while Ant goes to look things over and sign off for our lunch. I walk into the dining room with a goofy look on my face. The spread is gorgeous.

There’s everything from fruits, chocolates, cookies, and cakes to soup, sausage and peppers with pasta, salad, and bread. Then a little tray with car-shaped nuggets and fries.

I can’t help smiling. I feel so loved being with Ant. I spend my days being taken care of.

I love being a wife. As much as Ant takes care of me, I love taking care of him and AJ. They fill my days with laughter, joy, and peace.

Once the caterer is gone, Ant wraps his strong arms around me from behind and buries his face in my neck. I close my eyes and soak the moment in. He presses a soft kiss to my neck.

“You want to eat?”

I turn in his arms. “Yeah, but first, I need to say what I’ve been trying to.”

He looks me in my eyes with concern. “What’s that?”

“Stop worrying about me going back to New York. I don’t care about any of that. Even if I don’t go into the shop with Ven, I’m not leaving.

“I’ve loved being here with you and AJ. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in this world. You’re my husband. I want to be here to be your wife. I’m happy.”

He crushes my lips with his and holds me tight. I’d die before I chose to leave this man again. However, I know that it’s going to take time for him to allow it to sink in.

“Lex?”

“Yeah?”

“I love you,” he says against my forehead. “I’m giving my all to trust you. Yes, for AJ, but for me. I need to trust you.”

I knit my brows, hearing the unspoken words. He has no reason not to trust me. I hold no secrets from him.

“You can trust me. Promise. I’ll never run again.”

He takes a deep breath. “We need to talk. There’s something I never told you. Come sit.”
