I search his eyes as he looks up at me. I cup his handsome face and chew on my lip.
“Lex, every time I look at your bare finger, it pisses me off. It’s not right. I had planned to get you a set once my uncle got out and I knew I didn’t need to rely on my savings.
“Nothing went the way I planned, but I want to make it all right now.” He holds up a ring box with a breathtaking set inside.
I gasp and cover my mouth with a shaky hand. The ring he proposed with was a cute little cubic zirconia that I loved. I was devastated when I lost my rings.
The timing was terrible. Rushing to get away, I must have misplaced them. This is twice the size of that engagement ring. The band is just as impressive.
I was able to buy him the white gold band he wears because I fixed some guy’s bike. He hated that back then and always promised me a better ring. I was never pressed about it.
“This is what you deserved from the beginning,” he says.
He pulls the rings from the box and slips them on my finger. They fit perfectly. He rises to stand and cups my face to take my lips. I hold on to his hands and lift onto my toes.
“I’m never taking them off,” I say against his lips. “God, I love you so much. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, but the night is still young. And I have thirteen years of spoiling you I was robbed of.”
“Babe, you gave me the greatest gift of my life. You don’t have to spoil me.”
He purses his lips. “I’ve missed out on seeing that smile for so long. No one’s going to take that from me again. Suck it up, you’re about to be spoiled for the rest of your life.”
I laugh and hug him tight. “If you insist.”
I squeeze a little tighter as I realize he’s doing this to get my mind off my missing best friend. For a moment, I was able to breathe. God, I hope she’s okay.

We don’t have a lead on Kid yet, and that doesn’t sit right with me. Lex has been so stressed out. I thought getting her and AJ back home would help, but it hasn’t.
I wanted to do something. I’ve been wanting to give her new rings, and after dinner with Uncle Blake and it finally being settled that she’s not hiding anything that would make me walk, I knew it was time.
The rings are just the beginning. I needed to get Lex out of the house for her other gifts. She’s been driving my cars to get around when Ven doesn’t drive her around.
I want her to have her own car and it broke my heart to hear her say she had to sell her bike. She loved that thing. I’ve been wondering if she’ll change her mind about the business with Skittles if she gets her hands on a bike again.
I lift her hand to my lips as I turn into our block. She looks up at me and smiles. I give her a wink and place her hand in my lap.
The garage doors are sitting open as we pull up. In one bay is her brand-new truck. A sleek black BMW x6M. In the second bay sits her new bike next to mine. It’s an Aprilia RS660. I think she’s going to love it.
She gasps. “Babe, what have you done?”
She turns to me and grasps my face to kiss me. I hold the back of her neck and deepen the kiss. She pulls away to jump out of the truck.
I sit and watch as she runs over to the bike. Damn, she looks sexy on it as she straddles it and turns the key. I catch Leo and Pit watching her from the inside garage door.
They were a big help with tonight. Leo offered to babysit while Pit got the bike and truck here for me. I smile when Skittle peeks out of the house and claps her hands.
I don’t know who loves spoiling my wife more. Me or her cousin. I owe my brother and his wife. If not for them, I would have missed out on the life I’ve always wanted.
Suddenly, the sound of a car racing up catches my ear. It stops at the foot of my driveway and the door opens. They push something out and it lands in a small heap before the car races off. I start the truck back up to give chase, but Leo rushes by and gets to his knees, blocking the way.
I look in the rearview to see the car getting away and curse. Suddenly, another car races after it. Uncle Blake’s guys learned a lesson, I’m guessing. I want to go after them myself, but if I back out, I’ll run over Leo and whatever the heap is.
