Breaking the kiss, he trailed his lips down her neck, sucking on her pulse. He couldn’t help but bite down, loving the sounds she made.

“Fuck, Eloise, what are you doing to me?”

As quickly as their loss of control happened, he also heard his pack returning.

Eloise must have heard it too as at the same time, they pulled away from each other. Beau had nothing to say as she quickly drew breath, licking her lips.

“I’ve got to go,” she said.

She was never here when they came to eat.

It was surely too early for lunchtime, but as he checked the clock, he saw it was already twelve. Where the fuck had the time gone?

Eloise was already out the door, and Beau left the kitchen before the pack entered, going toward the main sitting room at the front of the house. This gave him the perfect view of Eloise as she climbed into her truck and drove off his property.

He didn’t have to wait long for Rose to seek him out.

“With you sending us out into the fields and Eloise only just leaving, I guess you know of our arrangement,” Rose said.

“I know.”

“Look, if you want me to tell her to stop, I will. I don’t see what the problem is, though. Everyone loves her food, and the guys don’t have a problem eating it.”

“Do you think they’ll stop if they find out a human is cooking for them?” Beau asked as he spun around to look at her.

Rose opened and closed her mouth. “I-I don’t know.”

“I have no problem with Miss Richards cooking for us. She has shown no ill will toward us, and she is more than welcome to keep cooking. The food is good, but you need to tell the men exactly what you have done,” Beau said. “I know you hate humans. Why are you trusting one to feed the whole pack?”

He stared at his only female pack member. Rose was sometimes a lovely person, but the problem was, she didn’t play very well with others. Unlike most wolves, she didn’t enjoy being surrounded by people, and often found it uncomfortable to be around them. His pack accepted her because they didn’t expect anything from her, apart from hard work. She had been able to find her place within his pack.

Rose shrugged. “She’s not … like other humans.”

Beau frowned and folded his arms. He already knew that. “In what way?”

She rolled her eyes. “Come on, you’ve already seen the way she is. She doesn’t shove her tits out to get any of the guys’ attention. There’s no fake giggling. She is not trying to pretend she’s something she’s not. She’s not loud or obnoxious. She’s just … Eloise. It’s hard to describe.”

“You’re doing a pretty good job.”

“I am?”

“Yeah, you are.”

“I like her, and she’s not forcing anything. When I called her, she wasn’t asking me details on anyone, and then when I asked her if she would, she didn’t seem to mind. She’s not waiting around for compliments. She delivers the food, tells us how to cook it with notes, and leaves. It’s a win-win situation. Kind of like what Steven had going, you know?”

He did know but now the only problem he had was that fucking kiss. He shouldn’t have kissed her. Beau knew that.

“Go,” he said.

Staring out into the yard where Eloise had been, he knew he had seriously fucked up, and he had no way of knowing if he was going to be able to keep himself in check.

Today, he’d crossed a line. Not only had he and his dick enjoyed it, but so too had his wolf, which was a new experience for him.

He wanted Eloise, but he knew deep down he really shouldn’t have her.

Chapter Three

Eloise couldn’t help but look at Dorothy. It had been a long time since she’d spent any real time with her sister.

“You’re staring,” Dorothy said. She looked up from where she’d been writing down the new orders for the haberdashery.

“Sorry, I’m not staring.”

“Yeah, you are. What happened to the whole judgment stare I get?” Dorothy asked.

“I don’t judge.”

This time, her sister threw back her head and laughed. “Honey, oh, please, you judge me.”

“No, I don’t judge you at all.”

Her sister gave her this look as if to say, “pull the other one.”

She held her hands out in surrender. “I’m being serious here. Honestly, I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.”

Dorothy chuckled. “Whatever. You can think what you want, I don’t care.”

It had been a couple of months since her sister had taken off. It hadn’t stopped her from being with other wolves, but she believed their mother had a long and not-so-nice chat with Dorothy.

Eloise wasn’t present for the talk, but she’d been there for the aftermath, and yeah, that hadn’t been a pretty sight.

“What’s it like?” Eloise asked minutes later.
