“In an hour. I just needed to hear your voice. I’ve been thinking about you nonstop.”

It’s the truth. I can’t get her off my mind. I’ve been distracted all day.

I want to be there with her. The need to look her in the eyes and hold her in my arms is so strong I feel sick to my stomach from not being able to.

“Call me when it’s over. I’ll wait up.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah, I want to talk to you,” she says. “I miss you.”

“I miss you too, babe. I’ll call you as soon as I get off the stage. Love you, baby.”

“Love you too. Break a leg.”

I chuckle and hang up. I turn as the door to my dressing room opens. It’s Jag.

“We need to talk,” he says.

“Talk.”

“You went behind my back and got married?” He seethes.

And this is where I get pissed off. There is a thin line between having my back and acting like he’s in charge of my life. Jag’s been taking shit too far.

I’m taken aback by his questioning me. I jerk my head back and frown. I don’t remember when he became my boss.

“First, I can do whatever I want,” I say.

“No, Bishop, you can’t. This is why she’s gone and you’re still here moping through your last shows. If you would’ve told me, I could’ve covered your ass,” he says.

“Why would I tell you when you’ve done nothing but give us shit? I don’t even think Saga likes you.” I snort.

“Whatever, I had to know she wasn’t here to take you for a ride. You didn’t give me a chance to do that either,” he grumbles.

“I’ve got this. She’s my wife. That’s not going to change.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got it. I’m here with a peace offering. I fucked up. She doesn’t like me. I haven’t done much to help with that.

“You have an hour, so make it fast,” he says and opens the door for an older guy and a young woman to walk in.

“What’s this?”

“Gómezes is the best jeweler I could find on short notice. Get your girl a ring, for fuck’s sake. Bullshit-ass band she’s walking around wearing,” he mutters.

I grin. Jag’s an asshole, but he means well. I stand and go to pull him into a hug.

“Thanks,” I say.

He pulls away and slaps me on the shoulder. Years of friendship allow us to put this under the bridge.

“I’ll fix the shit I’ve done,” he says.

“She’s stubborn. You’re going to have to work pretty hard,” I chuckle.

“Yeah, I know. I love you, bro. I just want to see you happy.”

“As long as I have her, I’m the happiest man in the world.”

CHAPTER 31

Reality Bites

Saga

I haven’t stopped sobbing for two days. My parents are still so mad at me. My sister thinks I’m crazy and my brother is hardly talking to me. Isha has been back and forth to check on me and to hang out, but I don’t want to be a burden.

I feel alone and lost. This house is strange and huge. It doesn’t feel like home to me. I thought I would stay with my family until Bishop returned, but not after what happened and what was said.

“Saga,” Bishop’s voice booms through the house.

I jump up from the bed where I’ve been buried in the covers, crying my eyes out. I nearly trip over the too-big T-shirt I have on. I pulled it from Bishop’s closet because it smelled like him.

“Saga,” he calls again.

I run out of the bedroom just as he jogs to the top of the stairs. I’m in his arms, wrapped around him as soon as he’s in my sight. Having his arms around me is the first time in days that I’ve felt peace.

“They hate me,” I sniffle.

“I’m going to fix this. I promise you,” he says into my hair.

“I don’t think you can,” I sob.

“You don’t know me well enough then. I’m going to make this right. I love you so much. I’m not going to lose you.”

“I missed you,” I say into his neck.

Being apart didn’t make me love him less. If anything, I’ve fallen more in love with him. He’s been calling nonstop. Instead of riding on the tour bus to get here, he flew in to get to me sooner.

I inhale his scent and break down completely. Something that feels so right shouldn’t be called wrong. Yeah, we could have taken our time and waited to get married.

However, there’s a part of me that feels like we were always meant to be together. Something just got crossed along the way to take us off the path we were supposed to be on. Now everything is right where it should be.

“I see you’re wearing my shirt,” he says as he places me on my feet on the bed to stand up in front of him.
