“Peter and I were thinking we’d bury you in the mountains. No one will find you until your face is eaten away and you’re full of maggots.” Edward laughed cruelly.

My chest tightened and tightened, forcing my breaths to be quicker and lighter. I didn’t want to picture myself like that, but with each passing minute, the image became clearer and clearer. I was on the verge of being killed, and I had no way of escaping.

Edward stroked my cheek.

“Aw, don’t worry. I’m still trying to figure out how we should kill you,” he told me, dropping his other hand down to my knee. “Maybe if you’re good, I’ll make it quick. Painless.”

My body tensed as the hand on my knee moved upward. I knew what he was doing, and I couldn’t even move to stop him. All I could do was close my eyes tightly, trying to block out all of my sensations as his hand started to slid between my thighs.

“Edward!” Peter’s voice boomed from the entrance of the catacombs.

Edward scowled and tore his hand away from me as he turned to face Peter.

“What?” he asked, sounding as annoyed as he looked.

“Keep your hands off her. None of that is necessary,” Peter snapped at him as he moved to stand in front of Edward.

“Who the fuck cares? She isn’t necessary anymore. I might as well put her to some use.” Edward smirked before turning toward me, seeming like he was about to continue where he left off.

Peter shoved Edward away from me.

“She’s already tied down, and I let you cut down her food,” he argued.

Edward narrowed his eyes as he stepped closer to Peter in a threatening manner.

“Let me? You don’t let Hurleys do anything. We do whatever the fuck we want!” Edward spat. He glanced over at me with a sneer. “Don’t think I’m done with you yet, doll.”

I nearly shuddered as I watched Edward storm out of the catacombs, the door slamming shut behind him. I was spared for now, but if he caught me alone without Peter being around to interfere, things wouldn’t be pretty. My entire body trembled slightly as the sensation of his tongue on my thigh lingered.

“Good timing,” I breathed out.

Peter frowned as he looked over at me, seeming stunned and uneasy.

“Don’t do anything to spite him. You know what will happen,” Peter warned me before turning away to head toward the door.

It seemed like he was starting to see the true craziness and evil that possessed his associate. Perhaps Edward grew crazier with age. I didn’t doubt that he was wild like Arvo back in his school days. The thought of Arvo turning out to be even more like his father in the future worried me even more about Arvo’s potential for evilness.

“Are you really going to kill me?” I called out to him before he could leave. It was hard to tell whether Edward was telling the truth or not. He could’ve been saying those things to scare me, and they had me feeling quite nervous.

“We’ve been discussing our next moves,” Peter merely said. “Just… behave.”

I frowned as I watched him walk off. He didn’t confirm or deny Edward’s claims, and he wasn’t the easiest person to read like Zephyr. The more time I spent with Edward and Peter, the more similarities I saw in their sons. It was almost scary because they were so alike in some instances.

Arvo shared his father’s hypersexuality and cruelness. They thrived off power and fear, and they hated being told what to do. It made me curious about how Zephyr was the leader of the Kings. Wouldn’t Arvo want to be the leader?

The thought of Arvo and his father taking over Stormcloud made my stomach tighten. They would have bodies stacked in the courtyard by noon. If anyone crossed them, which people would, they would be killed by all of Arvo’s lackies if he gave the order. I suspected Zephyr and his father wouldn’t want the Kings’ legacy to end up like that, so they would have to intervene somehow.

But where was I in this struggle for power? Maybe I truly was useless at this point. I wasn’t a source of information any longer because I refused to give up any. If they were using me for ransom, no one cared enough to rescue me. I was forgotten down in these catacombs.

Coldness swept up my sides as panic threatened to take over. All of my hope melted away like wax under fire. I tried putting it out of my mind, tears burning my eyes, but maybe it was time to accept the fate that was coming for me.

I wasn’t going to leave these catacombs alive.

CHAPTER 11

ZEPHYR

I was about to burst out of my skin. My suite was a trashed mess, objects littering the floor and shattered glass covering my desk. It wasn’t an intruder that did all of that, though. It was just me, trying to keep myself from storming into the King’s Hall and snapping Arvo’s neck.
