“I know. I know she’s gone, but she would want you to live. She’d want you to survive. Draco, stop.”

Wolfe was shoved back, but before Draco could make it to the door, he was on him. Draco wasn’t in focus, so he was able to press him to his back, applying pressure to his arms in the right places to stop his ability to turn.

“Draco!”

“Draco!”

The man beneath him screamed.

He didn’t stop him.

Sometimes, this was what he needed.

To allow his pain to spill out, to cry out, to allow all to hear just how much pain he was in, and then, like a few times before, he eventually collapsed. His body returning to that of a human. No wolf in sight.

“If you find a mate, Wolfe, if you even have an inkling that she is yours, never let her out of your sight. Never take for granted that you have all the time in the world, because within a blink of an eye, it could all be taken away from you.”

Last night, Amelia had expected the pain to last.

After eating her fridge in comfort food, including what might have been an out-of-date vegan yogurt, she had gone to her bathroom, lay down in the bath for an hour, with the water getting cold, slept on her sofa, and now, she was fine.

Sure, she knew she was no longer a virgin. But the pain was completely gone.

Fully dressed, she stared at the ceiling as her stomach growled.

There was nothing in her fridge or her freezer. She was banned from going to the diner. Stupid rules. Going into town came with a high risk though.

A high risk of seeing the Poison Wolves MC. With the threat imposed on the town, they’d be there to check on the pack, to make sure the town was secure. To patrol all surrounding areas.

This was why the whole pack loved them.

She didn’t know if many other packs were run by MCs similar to their pack, and she didn’t care.

Unless you want to leave.

That was a possibility.

Could she leave?

Did she want to leave?

Would Wolfe tell everyone what a disaster last night was?

There was only one way to find out.

Getting to her feet, she rushed toward her door, grabbing her bag as she made her way out. She closed and locked her door, even though it wasn’t necessary, seeing as she controlled the whole building and would be locking it as she left anyway.

She left the building, and as she stepped away from the main door, she paused and glanced toward the forest edge. Something didn’t feel right.

Amelia looked toward the forest line, checking to see if there was anything that stood out to her. When she saw a set of bushes move, she knew someone was watching her.

Instinct made her follow, and as she did, she caught sight of a head, moving.

With her bag over her head, she called out, yelling for whoever it was to stop.

They didn’t.

Running toward them, Amelia followed into the forest, and now she saw it was a man, a fully dressed man, but it wasn’t a hunter. This wasn’t even human.

She inhaled deeply and wasn’t sure what it was, but even though it ran on two legs, it was way too fast to be a hunter. He turned right, taking them deeper into the forest, where it was easier to get lost, heading toward the lake.

“Stop!”

Just as she was about to catch up with him, he dashed off to the left, and she knew he was heading toward the lake.

She charged forward, knowing a quicker route that would have her stopping him from getting too far, but as she rounded a tree, she hit a very hard, very masculine chest, and the force sent her landing on her ass.

Tilting her head back, she looked up to find Wolfe staring down at her.

Not the face she expected to see.

“Wolfe,” she said.

“Amelia, what are you doing running in the forest?” He held out his hand toward her.

The same hands that had given her a great deal of pleasure.

No, his tongue had given you pleasure, not his hands.

His hands are worthless.

She pushed herself to her feet without taking any of his help.

Yay, her.

“What are you doing here?” she asked.

“Answer my question.”

She gritted her teeth. Being part of the Poison Wolves MC, Wolfe had priority over her questioning. She had no choice but to answer him, which did still piss her off, like, a lot.

“I thought I saw someone.”

“What?” Wolfe went immediately on high alert, looking around.

“Outside of my apartment building. Someone was watching me. I don’t know if they were watching me specifically, but … I don’t know, it was … creepy.” She wrapped her arms around herself. “It was creepy, wasn’t it?”

“Someone was watching you outside of your house, and you just chased them into the forest. Do you think that was ideal? Safe?”
