As I push the bus door open, my phone rings. I exit just as I answer, “Hi, Mr. Coleman. I’m on my way.”

“We’re closing early, but I need you in for a little while to help with the cleanup.” Great. So I’ll really make no damn money. This is all I need.

“Okay. I’m almost there.” A wasted trip, no chance to see the man in the suit, and I’ll be back home soon just in time for a burglar to ransack the house and kill me.

It’s dark and unsettling when I get off the Cumberland bus. The diner already looks closed but it’s not, so I enter and clock in. “There you are.” I don’t spot a single customer or other employee, just my boss.

The dead silence of the restaurant unsettles me, and a shitty feeling sinks in the pit of my gut. “Where’s everyone else?”

“They all went home. I figured since you were already on your way, no sense in making it a wasted trip. You can take care of cleaning up those tables.”

I don’t like the way he is staring at me. If he planned on closing, he could have called me an hour ago and had whoever was here finish the cleanup. It’s not a lot. My work doesn’t take me too much effort, and I get everything back in place.

It’s almost an hour later when he comes out of his office and straight toward me and says, “Wow, it’s nice having it quiet here with just the two of us.” Suddenly I notice the change in music. It’s now a romantic tune playing in the background. Damn, how I desperately hate it.

“I think it’s time for me to go,” I say, stammering my words and taking off my apron. His eyes move straight to the action, and I regret that decision.

“No, I think it’s time for us to discuss your performance.” I move back a few steps, trying to create space between us. The back door is in the kitchen area, so I can hopefully get there before he can reach me.

Coleman goes to the front door to flip the Closed sign when it slams open. Two large men come bursting through, shoving my boss against the nearest table, giving me my chance to get away.

I quickly duck down behind the counter, hoping to avoid being seen by them. I don’t get a good look at who it is, and frankly I don’t want to know, as long as they leave me alone. All I can think about is hiding in the kitchen, but even as I contemplate it, I know the door would move and they’d see me.

“What do we have here?” a deep voice growls right above me. A voice I recognize, one that I’ve dreamed about, yearned for, wanted when I shouldn’t have.

Chapter Eight

Dario

She ducks behind the counter, but I can see her round ass sticking out and I want to grab onto that fucker so badly, sinking my fingers and teeth into that juicy, ripe flesh. A week of waiting has only amplified my hunger for May. The memory of my lips on hers made the last dozen hours nearly unbearable.

Lucas has had eyes on her since two this afternoon, and we expected her to stay home where I planned on apprehending her in the middle of the night. I never expected her to show up to work since the diner was closed. This bullshit pisses me off. What the fuck is she doing here alone with him?

“Sweetheart, up on your feet. As much as I like your ass in the air, I want to see that face,” I command, wanting her to look me in the eyes.

“Please don’t kill me.” I could never harm her and soon she’ll know it, but for now, I’ll take her cooperation any way I can get it.

“I said up on your feet.” She gets up, and our eyes meet. A gasp escapes those lips that I want to taste and ache to have wrapped around my cock. She looks shocked and frightened to see me. Given I clearly interrupted whatever was about to happen in the empty fucking restaurant, I’m a little pissed and glad she’s afraid.

“What were you doing here? It was supposed to be closed and your ass should be in bed.” My bed, tied or untied, depending on how much trouble she plans on giving me.

“I worked tonight,” she exclaims, raising her brow with indignation. I look around the fucking room, waving my hands, and then back at her.

“Is that really why you were here?” I ask, hoping she doesn’t lie to me again.

“Of course it is.” She looks past me to where they have Coleman pinned down. The fucker isn’t a bad-looking guy so it’s not like he couldn’t land her, especially with a little finesse and a promise to can her if she didn’t submit. I’ll take my time destroying him, if he touched her.
