They both stared up at him.

“I can give you all that. But you also need something else. To submit to me.”

30

Remy waited silently.

He tried not to let any nerves show on his face.

But he was fucking nervous. He wasn’t entirely sure how Loki would react.

Remy just hoped like hell that by taking this gamble he wasn’t going to end up losing everything.

Isa was watching them, eyes wide.

Loki licked his lips. “I’m not a sub.”

Right. He could work with that answer. He’d half-expected him to fly off the handle. To get angry.

But Loki looked thoughtful. Even a bit nervous and unsure.

“Perhaps not always. I was thinking that you might be a switch.”

“A switch?”

“Yeah, I can see that you already Top our girl.”

They both gave him surprised looks.

“Being someone’s Dom isn’t just about sex,” he explained. “Okay, let me clarify that. It can be. But it isn’t all tying someone up and spanking their ass. It isn’t all rules and consequences. Sometimes it can be taking care of someone in ways they don’t often even notice. That SUV that Isa drives, was that her choice?”

Loki snorted. “Hell, no. She wanted some racy little convertible that wouldn’t have survived a winter out here and was way too dangerous for her to be driving in.”

“Right. Her car looks like it’s been well-maintained. Does she take it to the garage to get services and have the tires replaced?”

“No. That’s my job.”

“She came straight from work to the Wishing Well tonight. Did she have time to eat?”

“No.” Loki gave him a confused look.

“I noticed there was food sent to her table. Was that from Noah? Or one of the other men?”

“No. I knew she needed to eat so I ordered it. She still hasn’t eaten, though. I’ll make her a sandwich.”

Remy shot a look at Isa who was staring up at him like he was her every fantasy brought to life. Like he was her white knight, her protector.

And damned if it didn’t make him feel like a king.

But he hadn’t gotten there yet. He waited for Loki to make Isa a sandwich, placing it on a plate next to her. Along with a bottle of water.

“You already Top her in ways you probably don’t understand. Take care of her. Watch out for her. But you don’t trust yourself to go any further.”

Loki watched him with wary eyes.

“It’s like there are two sides to you. One is Loki. Wild and acting on instinct. While the other is calmer. Rational. Thoughtful. Protective. I get why you feel you can’t trust yourself. But she trusts you. And if you could calm the wildness, if you had a way to switch off the pain, even for a while, wouldn’t it be worth it?”

Switch off the pain?

This guy had no idea what he was talking about. Loki grabbed Isa’s untouched sandwich and curled her fingers around it. He knew she’d barely notice, but it would prompt her to eat.

Then he started to pace.

A switch? What the fuck? He didn’t want this guy to Top him.

Right?

But he did want Isa. He wanted to keep her. For her to be his.

Theirs?

Did they need Remy in order to be with each other?

He’s shown he’s protective of her . . . he’s big enough to protect her from you if you have a flashback.

“I don’t know,” he finally said.

Was that a flash of disappointment on Isa’s face?

Shit. Fuck.

He never wanted to disappoint her. If this was what she wanted . . . would sharing her be so bad?

If he said no, then what? There was still no moving forward for them.

And one day she’d find someone.

Someone who wouldn’t want Loki too. Remy could be offering him everything.

If he was brave enough to take it.

It meant another person to protect. To keep alive. Although Remy could take care of himself.

“I get you don’t trust me,” Remy said. “You don’t know me.”

“I don’t know if I trust someone who seems to have all the answers.”

To his shock, rather than get angry, Remy smiled. “Fair enough. Makes you feel better, I’ve made my share of mistakes. Don’t always have the answer.”

“Could’ve fooled me,” Isa muttered.

“Are you eating that sandwich, baby? Or just squishing it?” he asked.

Isa stared at him for a moment, then down at the sandwich in her hand as if she’d never seen it before.

“Ooh, yum. Date and cream cheese. My favorite.” She took a big bite.

Remy glanced over at Loki. “She had no idea she was holding that?”

Loki winked at Isa. “She can get focused on one thing and forget about others. Like eating and drinking.”

“But you make sure she does, don’t you?” Remy asked.

“Of course. She’s my girl.”

Loki had likely said that to get a reaction from him. But Remy was coming to terms with the fact that he was going to share this girl.
