We are almost asleep when there’s a knock at the door. “Ms. Cole, it’s Officer Willis, and Detective Torres.” Bee goes to the door and opens it, letting them in. I stand and move to greet the two.

The detective raises his palm. “Please sit. We need to inform you of what we found.”

“Okay. I don’t like where this is going.” I sit back down on the bed and Bee follows, sitting beside me. “What’s going on?” He pulls out a sealed, clear evidence bag with a letter in it.

“We’re going to have it tested, but we’re sure there will be no trace evidence on it.”

He hands over the letter, and I read it aloud.

You little whore. You betrayed me and let him touch and kiss you. I saw you with him and I watched the way you played just for him like the little tramp you are. I’ll make you pay for your deceit. Maybe I’ll forgive your betrayal. I won’t have competition. I will find him and kill him.

“Oh my God.” Panic shoots through every nerve in my body, and the room spins.

“Who is he talking about?”

“I don’t know. I bumped into a stranger and his woman in the lobby entrance today. That’s it. We had a brief exchange—that’s all.”

“We need to get the cameras and find out who that man is and see if we can figure out who he is before this man does,” Detective Torres says.

“It’s all my fault. I accidentally bumped into him. I went through the wrong doors and got turned about, needing air. I slammed right into his chest, and he apologized to me. He kissed the back of my hand and then I left.” I cry, but as the tears fall, I feel like I can’t breathe.

“Keep watch. I have to make calls. We need a doctor to see her.”

“Yes, but we can’t just take her to the hospital.”

“Yes, you’re right.”

I don’t want to see any doctors or be prescribed meds. I think about that moment with my parents. Slamming my eyelids shut, I say, “I’m fine. I just want to find him and make sure he’s safe.”

“Are you sure?”

I open my eyes and nod. “Yes.” I stand up and walk around the room, pulling a water out of the mini fridge. After taking a drink, I tell the officer, “You can wait outside. I promise I’m good. I just want to rest as long as I can.”

“Good. Get some sleep.”

As soon as she’s outside, I snatch my phone off the charger. “I need to call Lena. It can’t wait until morning.”

“Good.”

I pull out my cell and dial, and her husband answers, “Hello, Andrea. Lena’s sleeping. Everything okay?”

“I need the number to her friends that helped her.”

“Got you. Okay. I’ll text it right now.” He sends the text as he says, “You need anything from me, don’t hesitate to ask either. I have some connections if they can’t get the job done.”

“Thank you.” I hang up and dial the number. Boomer. Strange name, I think. “Hello, I know it’s late, but a friend gave me this number, and it’s serious. She said I could call you for help. Are you Boomer?”

“Who is this? Who is the friend?”

“I’m Andrea Cole. My friend was Lena Smith, but she got married recently.”

“Oh. Okay. Yes, I am Boomer. What’s going on, Ms. Cole?” I can hear a grogginess in his voice, and I feel terrible about waking him up.

“I have a stalker and he’s attacked my hotel room tonight and left a threatening note. He’s after a man I met tonight. I’m frightened, and I need help finding this mystery man before he does.”

“We’ll have someone come get you. Where are you?”

I gave him the hotel name and location.

“But it’s not safe. He’s obviously watching the hotel.”

“Understood. Ask to be taken to the hospital. We had a family emergency this evening, so we have several members there right now. We’ll get you out and to safety.”

“My cousin is with me. She has to be protected as well,” I insist.

“Of course.”

“I don’t have any of my things, though. They won’t let me back in my room, and it will look suspicious if I leave with no more than my purse.”

“Don’t worry about any of that, Ms. Cole.”

“Lena said you guys were amazing.” I can’t fight the sudden smile on my face.

“Thanks.”

I hear a woman’s voice in the background. Garrett, is everything okay?

Yes, Tigress, go to bed. That’s all I hear before the line goes dead.

“We’re going to the hospital. They need to take us there now,” I say to Bee. She nods and whispers her plan.

Chapter Three

Cyber

We sit in the waiting room hoping for any updates. Boomer comes into the waiting room where Ghost, Grace, Demi, and I are. He rubs his eyes, shaking his head like he’s still trying to wake up, and yet he’s moving toward us on a mission.
