When he stepped in front of her to block her path, she jumped and her eyes went wide as they rose to his face. As soon as she realized it was him, she relaxed slightly.

“You scared me.”

“You seemed bothered and preoccupied. What’s wrong?”

She shook her head, then quickly glanced over her shoulder. She was spooked for some reason. “Nothing. Just a typical night in paradise.”

He narrowed his eyes on her and growled, “Now, I know that’s a fucking lie.”

“It’s fine.”

“Sapphire…”

“Rez, it’s fine.”

“Call me Tony here.”

She frowned and searched his face. “What? Why? You said that name was reserved for your mother.”

“And apparently undercover work,” he whispered only loud enough for her to hear him over the distorted version of Cherry Pie by Warrant.

The Pit’s shitty DJ was destroying the ‘80s and ‘90s one song at a time.

“I’m now Anthony Allison.”

Her head jerked back. “Allison? That’s so… not you.”

He shrugged. “Do you think those dumbasses can add two and two together?”

She sighed. “I have proof they can’t. So, what’s with the name?”

“My fake business just got hired by the Demons to do some construction work.”

Her mouth dropped open.

He put a finger under her chin and shut it. He could see when she mentally shook herself.

“It’s you?”

His brow furrowed. “It’s me what?”

“I just complained to Taint about everything that needs fixed around here and he told me I’d be the one dealing with the person hired to fix that shit. It must be you.”

He did what? “Don’t know anything about that. I only know they want me to finish some construction at their Uniontown church.”

Her perfectly plucked eyebrows knitted together. “Church?”

“Their MC clubhouse.”

“They call it a church?” she asked with a shake of her head.

He snorted. “Yeah. Anyway, Saint’s supposed to let me know when we start.”

“Who’s we?”

“Someone I work with. Someone who actually knows something about construction.”

“You don’t?”

“I know the basics. And I learned a helluva lot when we restored our own church.”

She shook her head again. “That sounds like a story I want to hear at another time.”

“And I’ll be glad to tell you and even show you our Blue Avengers clubhouse, but not until this unexpected windfall is over. For now, I’m no longer Antonio Alvarez, but Tony Allison.”

“You should’ve picked a more fitting last name,” she teased, color returning to her face.

“Too late.” He dug into his back pocket, pulled out his wallet and gave her one of his cards. “So, Dickhead wants me to do work here, too?”

She nodded. “Sounds like it. Unless he hired someone else and I’m the one who can’t add two and two together. But since he’s a cheap ass, it has to be you.”

“Yeah, and I’m probably the only construction company that will accept meth instead of payment.”

Her mouth gaped open again. “What?”

“Again, that’s something we can discuss anywhere but here.”

“I guess we’ll have to find a time to have a more private discussion.” Her bright blue eyes twinkled.

“I’m game if you are. Just let me know when I should expect you at my door.” And in my bed.

She sighed. “I’ll check my schedule.”

“If you can’t come over at night, a breakfast or brunch meeting would work, too.” Morning, night, he didn’t care when she came over, as long as she did.

“Maybe with maple syrup this time and more whipped cream?” She ran her tongue across her plump bottom lip.

That tease got him right in the dick. “You’re making me hungry.” And horny.

His gaze slid down her slinky, form-fitting dress. Tonight it was bright red and her lipstick matched perfectly. Before he realized what he was doing, his knuckles brushed against her breasts when he adjusted the deep-V neckline so it covered more of her cleavage.

She tipped her head to the side and gave him a look he could read very clearly.

Fuck, he’d overstepped. He quickly released her. “Sorry,” he whispered.

“If you have a problem with me working here… Tony. Then we may have a problem.”

He put his hands up in surrender. “I don’t.”

He did, but he’d deal with it. It wasn’t the fact she got naked in front of other men—as long as they weren’t touching her, he was kind of okay with it—but he was bothered more about who she worked for.

He’d feel better once she was back working for Mel. And hopefully as a hostess, instead of strutting her stuff with leather and whips on stage.

But he was getting ahead of himself since they weren’t a “thing.” They were only having a bit of fun together.

Since he’d like that fun to continue, he needed to be careful not to fuck that up by saying or doing something asinine. Like adjusting her damn dress when it was her sexuality, her flirting skills and the way she looked that made her money.

“How long are you staying tonight?” she asked. “I can check my schedule before you leave.”
