“Actually, no. It means gem in Hebrew.” She lifted a hand. “My father’s Greek. My mother’s not. The ancestry on my mother’s side would take too long to explain and it’s not important. Let’s just say I’m half Greek and half European.”

“And you’re one hundred percent gorgeous. I thank your ancestors for your good genes. So, do you want me to call you Sapphira, Phira, Sapphire, Phire… What do you prefer?”

“Only my family calls me Sapphira. But it’s best you call me what you already do so you don’t slip up at the club. And speaking of The Pit, I want to hear the dirt you guys have on the Demons.”

“It doesn’t go any farther than between the two of us.”

She nodded.

“Promise me, Phire. This is a huge investigation that involves over forty-five law enforcement personnel. This isn’t a traffic ticket or petty theft. This is major shit and could put not only the investigation at risk but my fellow task force members.”

She crossed her fingers and drew an X over her heart. “I swear I won’t say a word. Though, I might throw a huge party if that MC crashes and burns.”

“We plan on exactly that. The crashing and burning part, not the party. But I’d attend if you threw one. We all would. But to take them down means we can’t fuck up. You’ll be on a need-to-know basis and right now I can only give you the basics.”

“Can I add that I’d also like to be on the sidelines to watch when it all goes down?” she asked.

With a soft snort, Rez dropped his head and shook it.

“Does Mel know everything?”

His amusement quickly fled. “I’m not sure what she knows.”

“Okay, tell me what you can.”

He pulled at his bearded chin as he stared across the table at her. For a moment, she thought he’d changed his mind. Until he said, “I’m part of a federal drug task force specifically set up to take down the Demons.”

“What kinds of drugs are they selling?” She had a good idea but they were damn sneaky about it.

She figured pot and maybe something stronger, but she didn’t have confirmation on that until he answered, “Meth. And they’re not just selling it, they’re trafficking it. Picking it up from a Mexican cartel at the border and delivering the bulk of it to another criminal organization in Pittsburgh.”

She frowned. “What kind of criminal organization is in Pittsburgh?” For the most part, she loved the city and always considered it safe.

“La Cosa Nostra.”

Holy shit. “The Mafia?”

“Yes. This isn’t some street corner dealer. It’s a whole criminal network.”

Figures those dumbfuck Demons were involved in some dangerous shit. “And there are forty-five of you just to take down one MC?”

“Not in our group. There are three groups of fifteen. Our group covers Pennsylvania, one covers West Virginia and another covers Ohio. The three states where the Demons have clubhouses and are expanding their territory.”

“Damn. Sounds like they’re definitely building an empire.”

“Trying to.”

“But you heroes are on the job to tear down their castle before they finish building their kingdom.”

“More or less. Will it stop the flow of meth into our state? Debatable. But we can’t sit back and not try.”

“A thankless job,” she concluded.

“For the most part. Sometimes it’s rewarding, too. You might have met Crew at the club and maybe even at Mel’s. He’s a senior DEA agent and is in charge of our group.”

“Ah, yes, the silver fox. The one who’s a bit cocky.”

Rez huffed, “You should’ve just said ‘the cocky one.’”

“I haven’t been around him enough to say that. So, T-Bone’s a part of this trafficking business, but why hunt him down specifically?”

“You’ve met Decker. His woman’s sister got tangled up with the Demons because she’s a meth addict. T-Bone was pimping her out in exchange for keeping her high. However, she’s at death’s door. Sloane and Decker are doing everything they can to get her back and get her clean before it’s too late.”

She pressed fingers to her gaping lips. “Holy shit.”

“Yeah, when they found her last time, they took her to the hospital because she was nothing but a skeleton, but that fucker came and took her. Since then, neither the prospect or Sloane’s sister has been seen.”

“She’s part of the task force’s investigation?”

“No, some of us are looking for Sadie on our own to help out our brother. The task force’s sole focus is on the Demons.”

“Sadie is Sloane’s sister?”

“Sadie Parrish is her name. If you happen to hear it being mentioned by any of those assholes, can you listen carefully and let me know what was said? We’ll take any leads.”

That was easy enough. Not that she normally listened closely to what any of those outlaw bikers had to say. In fact, she tried to ignore them and forget they existed. She might have to make a point to eavesdrop. Without being caught, of course. “Do you think she’s still alive?”
