“Yeah,” Crew said, leaning back in his seat and folding his arms over his chest. “Any luck on talking with the DAMC prez about a meet?”
“I left him a voicemail. Just waiting on a call back.”
“How long does he normally take?” the DEA agent asked.
“When he’s good and ready.”
“Will that be sometime this century? We need to get some people in place. We’re about to get rolling on this investigation and it would be good if they cooperated. For both them and for us.”
At the head of the table, Jamison also sat back in his chair and took a slow, deep breath as he considered Crew. “I know that. You know that. Good luck convincing them of that.”
Crew shrugged. “All we can do is try. If my method doesn’t work, we’ll have to approach it another way.”
“You mean going undercover without them knowing it,” Jamison said flatly.
“I’d prefer not to do that. We’re going to need them. It’s risky to simply put someone in there as a prospect because the next thing you know that new guy, which would be my guy, is approaching the Demons to buy meth wearing Angels’ colors. That’s double the risk of getting exposed. Worse, it could start an MC war we want to avoid.”
“I’m aware of the list of potential problems, Crew. And I don’t want to risk one of your TFOs because of Z being a stubborn fuck. But, truth is, Z can be a stubborn fuck, as well as the rest of his officers. Especially the big asshole. The sergeant at arms tends to make decisions that aren’t his to make.”
“He oversteps?” Fletch asked, surprised.
Jamison’s blue eyes turned to him. “Constantly.”
“And neither the prez or VP puts him in his place?” Fletch would have no problem telling Rez to remember his place. He might be the club’s enforcer, but he was not the ultimate decision-maker. The president was. And Fletch, as VP, assisted Jamison with guidance.
“Depends,” Jamison answered. “You have to remember those guys grew up together—for the most part, anyway—so they’ve been tight for decades. It doesn’t matter whose blood’s running through their veins, in the end they are true brothers through and through. This bond was established way before they wore their prospect cuts. Zak and I might have been born from the same parents but he’s closer to Hawk and Diesel than me. And I don’t think that’ll ever change.”
While Jamison’s tone remained level, Fletch knew he had a lot of regrets when it came to his relationship with his brother.
Fletch couldn’t imagine how the DAMC ripped apart one family like it did. Mitch Jamison, the former president of the Blue Avengers, broke free of his father’s outlaw club to take the straight and narrow path while Mitch’s brother, Rocky, stuck to his roots. Mitch went into the police academy and Rocky went to prison for life. The two brothers couldn’t be more different.
It didn’t stop there. Mitch’s sons took two different paths, too, despite Mitch doing everything he could to prevent that. Axel went into the police academy while Zak went to prison for a decade. Once he got sprung, he went right back to the club, what he considered his home and family, despite the fact doing so would risk him going away again.
That risk was one reason he was adamant about keeping the club clean. On the surface, anyway.
Jamison’s next words pulled Fletch from his thoughts. “I can tell you he won’t want to meet alone. I doubt Diesel would allow it, anyway.”
“Then he can bring his enforcer along,” Crew said.
“He might want Hawk with him, too.”
“And who is Hawk again?” Crew asked with his eyebrows pinched together.
“His VP,” Jamison answered.
Crew shook his head. “Okay. But no more than those three.”
“You’re asking for them to cooperate with you but you also want to set the terms. That might not go over well,” Jamison warned him.
“Tell them what we want to discuss with them is on a need-to-know basis and I’m being generous by allowing three.”
Fletch dropped his head and smothered his grin at Crew trying to make demands of an MC he had zero control over.
“Yeah, I won’t be telling him that second part because he’ll just tell me to fuck off and you won’t get a meet with him at all.”
“Do we need to twist arms?” Finn asked. “Do we need to bring in one of their guys and hold them in custody until your brother cooperates?”
Axel’s mouth became a thin slash. “Look, it took years for us to patch up our relationship to where it is now. And there are still cracks…”
“I told you this might fuck shit up between the two of you,” Cross said. “Maybe it shouldn’t be you, Axel.”
Crew’s brow furrowed. “Is it better to get Mitch to approach him?”
“Oh hell no!” burst from the BAMC president. “My relationship with Zak is much better than my father’s. Our relationship might have cracks but theirs still has gaping holes. They tolerate each other only because of my mother and the grandkids. That’s about it. Mitch hates that Z’s still involved with the DAMC, whether it’s legit or not. He also silently blames Z for Jayde hooking up with her ol’ man. He wanted my sister to stay clear of the club and she’s now fully involved because of her husband Linc.”
