“We’d also have to look the other way if they’re involved in shit Jamison and Cross don’t know about.”
Crew huffed out a breath. “Yeah, depending what it is. We can let the minor shit slide, but anything else…” He shook his head. “It’ll depend on what it is.”
“And that right there might cause them to tell us to fuck off.”
Smoking pot and underaged drinking was one thing. Kidnapping, aggravated or sexual assault and people disappearing into the ether were another.
“Are you planning on sending someone to prospect with the Demons?” Fletch asked.
“It would be ideal to have someone on the inside. Group one already has a couple of their guys installed inside the mother chapter in West Virginia. But from the intel I’m getting, the Demons are setting up another chapter in our territory and one in Ohio to get a foothold on the local meth market. If we can get someone in their midst while those chapters are still forming, that would be the best time.”
“Agreed.” Planting a seed while the Demons were still sowing their garden would be the perfect time.
“If we send anyone in to prospect, it needs to be someone preferably in their twenties. Most of us are older than a typical prospect.”
“Right. A forty-year-old prospect might catch some attention. Is it possible? Sure. Is it common?” Fletch lifted and dropped one shoulder. “I don’t know. Maybe we can find out when we meet with the Angels.”
“If we meet with them. They have to agree first.”
“And if they don’t?”
“Then we’re going to have someone undercover approach them about prospecting. Another issue is finding someone who can ride. Luckily, you can ride and have your own Harley, so you’re familiar with them… Start getting in the habit of calling it a sled. You’ll have to get familiar with their vernacular and habits, that’s why I’d want to set you up with them ahead of time. Get comfortable with their language and actions before you approach any Demons as an Angel.”
“Sounds like fun.” He loved challenges like this. Stepping outside the box and working undercover in a situation completely opposite of his normal life. It was like playing cops and robbers when he was a kid. Only then, he always played the good guys. While undercover he’d be playing the bad.
“The good thing about you not having kids or a wife is we can set you up in an apartment in Shadow Valley and get you working in one of their businesses. You’ll need to go as deep as possible. Here’s the other thing…” He paused. “Since you’d have to live that life for at least a while, I think it would be smart to also send in Wilder with you as your ol’ lady. Then we’d have two of you inside that club. And if I can slide someone in as a prospect, that’ll make three.”
Holy shit. He didn’t know what to address first. He decided to start with the easy question. “We’ll need that many?”
“We will if the president allows our UCs to deal with the Demons directly. Like buying meth from the Demons. I’ve got a bunch of scattered ideas that need to be put together to form a more solid plan. But first I need to know… Are you up for it?”
“Fuck yeah. That sounds right up my alley.” But… “Do you think Wilder will want to do it?” Especially when it came to shacking up with him and playing the part of his ol’ lady, basically pretending to be his wife.
“She won’t have a choice. If she doesn’t want to pull her weight on this team, she’ll need to be replaced.”
Damn. That threat sounded cold-blooded but it was necessary. “Plan on her walking, then. I’m not sure she’ll be thrilled with living with me. Especially for what might be months.”
“Could be weeks. Could be months. Could be even longer. Plenty of time for her to teach you some manners.”
Fletch snorted. “Too old to teach this dog new tricks.”
“Wilder looks like she’s capable of teaching an old dog plenty of new tricks. But warning, she won’t use treats, she’ll use a damn shock collar.” Crew made a zapping sound and laughed.
Fletch winced. “No fucking doubt. Has she done undercover work?”
“Oh yeah.”
“Successfully?”
“Hell yes. She went under to gather enough evidence to indict some major players in the Russo crime family.”
“Damn. She got her nails dirty with the Pittsburgh Cosa Nostra?”
“That wasn’t the first time she made a name for herself among her peers. She’s one dedicated and determined agent.”
“Was that why she was chosen for this assignment?”
“Yeah. We needed at least one female on the team for undercover work and organized crime is her jam. From what I heard, she played her part in the Russo organization so well the head of the family was eating out of her fucking palm.”
