I’m beginning to believe she enjoys my company as much as I enjoy hers. I’m starting to miss her when she’s not around. The sexual tension is off the charts as well.

However, I don’t think Sid is ready for me. Not the way I want her to be. When I take her, I want her to crave me like her next breath.

“Call me when you have something I can use,” I say and end my call.

We’re in my home office. Sidney has been writing as I make a few calls. I’m trying to keep it down, so I don’t disturb her. I love watching her get lost in her writing. She gets this look in her eyes and I know she’s off in some world only known to her.

“I’m going to break for lunch soon,” she says and stretches her arms above her head. The oversized sweatshirt she took from my closet shows me just how comfortable we have become.

She has more than enough clothes of her own, but she takes my things all the time. I don’t mind. Something possessive comes over me when I see her wearing my clothes.

In the last few weeks, I’ve come to have a hard time seeing Sid as anything other than mine. I shake my head to focus.

“What would you like to eat? I can order in.”

“I’m fine with the leftovers from last night.”

“You sure? It’s no trouble to make a call. Carlos will be back from vacation in a few days. He’ll be taking over the cooking.”

Sidney pouts. “So no more of your delicious meals?”

“I’ll cook for you anytime you want, baby.”

She gives me a little smile. “Come sit with me. I have a few more scenes to write before I break for lunch. Keep me company.”

I move over to the lounge she’s sitting on. She scoots forward and I throw my leg over the chaise lounge to take a seat behind her. She settles back into my chest. This seems to be one of her favorite positions.

Kissing the top of her head, I relax and take in the silence of the room. The clicking of her fingers over the keyboard is the only sound as we fall into a comfortable silence.

“Have you heard from your brother? How’s Chloe? Why hasn’t she returned my calls?”

“They have a lot going on. I’ll see if he can get her to touch base with you soon.”

“I just want to know she’s all right. This isn’t like her.”

“I understand, I’ll talk to him.”

“Thanks.”

“How’s the wedding planning going?”

“It’s fine. Although, I don’t know why you have me spending so much money on a wedding that’s not going to happen.”

“You let me worry about that. Have you found a dress?”

She turns to look at me. I peck her lips, then her nose. She’s such a pretty woman.

“No. I’m going to go looking again this week. Delta won’t let it go. Your mom wants me to FaceTime her next time.”

I nod. Mom took off for Dubai. Apparently, whatever’s going on with Gregor needed mom’s attention.

“If you don’t find anything soon, I’ll bring in a designer. You can have something custom made.”

“Clay, don’t be ridiculous.”

“There’s nothing ridiculous about it. Humor me, Sid.”

“Hmm.”

“Were you this reluctant in your old relationships?”

“First, we’re not in a relationship, which is why I don’t want to waste your money. Second, I used to bend over backward for my boyfriends, and I was hurt every time. It took a long time for me to see I needed to know myself before I could be with anyone else.”

“Is that why you haven’t been dating in the past few years?”

“Clay, you’re growing on me. Don’t start that creepy stalking shit again.”

I laugh, not even offended by her use of language. I’m learning to allow Sid to be Sid. I like her that way.

“No, seriously, a gorgeous woman like you should have men knocking down her door.”

“I’ve gone on a date or two in the last two years. You might want to check your sources. They’re leaving things out.”

That earns another laugh. She places her laptop aside and turns to face me. I cup her face and take her lips. Then place my forehead to hers to absorb her.

“Clay, we’re not really getting married. Can you back off on the spending?”

“My father knows I would spare no expense if this were real. Stop worrying, it's fine.”

I smile and wrap my arms around her for a hug. Little does she know. I plan to get her to the altar. My goals have changed again, I want to have Sid with me until I have my fill. If going through with this wedding will get me that, I’m all for it.

Sidney

I sit at Clay’s desk in his home office on the phone with Delta as I rub at my temples. I have a tension headache. Today was one of those days when all of this feels like a real relationship.
