Before I can reply, Clayton wraps his arm around my waist. He pecks my lips, then guides me out the door. He calls over his shoulder as we go.

“It was a lovely evening, thanks for having us. We’ll talk, Dad.”

I frown. That was kind of rude. Clayton’s parents turned out to be quite pleasant after all. His mother is a sweetheart, I felt bad when she looked so disappointed about not being in on the wedding planning.

I told myself that she was better off not having the experience than to be let down when the plans are all for nothing. Clayton’s father even warmed up to me as the night moved on. That man scares me a little.

He’s just as intense as his son, if not more so. It’s like I could see his mind calculating the entire night. He never missed a thing.

However, it’s Cane who I’m not too sure about. Clayton’s little brother watched me throughout the night. I felt like he was trying to look through me. I’m not sure what’s up with him, but it started to get on my nerves after a while.

“We’re riding with Cane,” Clayton says as he leads me to the running SUV.

“What happened to our car?”

After his behavior all night, I don’t want to ride with Cane.

“I sent the Phantom to pick up a friend. I need to talk to Cane, so it made sense to ride with him.” He kisses my temple and then helps me into the car.

I’m more annoyed as I climb into the back of Cane’s SUV. I’ve had my fill of this dude for one night. As Clayton settles in his seat, he reaches over to place his hand on my thigh, rubbing his thumb back and forth against my skin.

I relax and close my eyes. The warm murmur of the two brothers’ voices helps to lull me into a light sleep. I can still hear them but I’m drifting right outside the reach of consciousness.

I can tell the brothers are close. Although, I also noticed Clayton keeping a close eye on Cane during dinner. Again, I will say I have reservations about Cane. He seems a bit nervous or something.

I can hear it even more now as I near unconsciousness. There’s something in his tone that reveals he has something he’s trying to hide. I open my eyes as it stands out and grabs my attention.

I can’t put my finger on it. I’ve seen the behavior before, but it hasn’t clicked in my head where yet. During dinner, I tried to place the behavior as I homed in on it. However, the way he watched me unnerved me and I gave up.

Like now, I can feel those gray eyes locked on the side of my face. I thought he and Clayton would have their conversation as we ride back to the penthouse, but they have both fallen silent.

Actually, Clayton has become a little tense. His hold on my leg has tightened and when I turn to look at him, his lips are pursed tightly. I’m not sure what happened. Did I drift off deeper than I thought and miss something?

I remain silent and turn to look out the window. The tension within this car is enough to cut through. The ride seems to be taking forever.

“Can my brother trust you?”

It’s the first words spoken in the last thirty minutes. I turn to look into the gray eyes staring back at me. They’re not as welcoming as his brother’s. His eyes are narrowed at me, his lips thinned in a tight line.

Cane is as handsome as his brother, with a younger version of Clayton’s face. He has that dark-red hair I noticed they get from their father. I also noticed as the men entered the dining room earlier this evening, Cane is a little taller than Clayton, if possible.

Both Clooney and Eileen are on the tall side, so I’m not too surprised by their giant offspring. More so in awe of their extremely good looks.

I go to reply to Cane, but Clayton beats me to the punch. I’m stunned and turned on all at once. I’ve never needed a knight in shining armor, but phew. However, to watch one come to my rescue is the hottest thing I’ve ever seen.

“You don’t want to do that,” Clayton warns, with a deep rumble in his voice. “My woman is my business, not yours. You have any questions, you come to me. Whatever’s been going on in your head tonight, squash that shit and move on. Sidney is mine, I don’t play that shit, Cane, and you know it.”

My panties are soaked. Cane is forgotten as I stare at the side of Clayton’s face. He has nearly turned completely in his seat, as if ready to lunge at his brother. His jaw is tight, and his fists are clenched.
