“Like vegetables?”

“Just like vegetables.” He stood and took her hand to pull her to her feet. “Come. I’m going to make you a delicious smoothie for that bottle, then I’m going to rock you while you suckle the formula.”

She toddled behind him. “It’s hard to walk in this, Daddy,” she complained as she followed him.

“You’ll get used to it, Little girl. Pacies and bottles and diapers help Little girls fully relax and let go. I won’t ask you to use them every day, Mae Bug, but I will ask you to trust Daddy to know when you need them.”

She didn’t comment, but he saw her pop the pacifier in her mouth while she waited for him to make her smoothie, and she didn’t argue when he led her to the couch and cradled her in his arms.

He removed the pacy from between her lips and replaced it with the nipple of the bottle, holding her hands out of the way as he introduced yet another new aspect of age play.

Trace was relieved when his Little girl relaxed into him and stared into his eyes while he fed her. His heart had already been swelling with love all day. It nearly exploded out of his chest as he held her, rocked her, and fed her.

He also got no argument when he carried her into the master bedroom, pulled back the covers, and settled her in the bed. He tucked three pillows on each side of her and smiled. “Those will keep you from falling out of bed. When your new crib comes, I won’t have to worry about you during your naps.”

She giggled as she popped her pacy back in her mouth. A second later, she pulled it back out and twisted her neck. “Where’s Weenie?”

Trace found her stuffie and tucked it in her arms. He leaned over her and kissed her forehead. “I’m so proud of you, Little girl. So very proud.”

Chapter Seventeen

“I never got to try that cupcake that turned your lips black,” Trace mentioned on Sunday afternoon.

“I don’t know if they have them after Halloween, but we could go see. I haven’t had time to get to Little Cakes for a while,” Avery shared.

“I think I could eat a cupcake as a snack. We did a couple extra laps this morning on our run,” Trace pointed out.

“Let’s go!” Avery bounded off the couch and placed Weenie carefully against a pillow where she wouldn’t fall off. Just like her Daddy had done when she took a nap yesterday.

She stopped and pressed on the padding that surrounded her. “I don’t have to wear my diaper, do I?”

“Not this time, Mae Bug. Let’s go get you changed. I bet you have a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt that would be almost as comfortable as your cupcake attire.”

“No way, Daddy. This is the most comfortable outfit ever. Thank you for getting it for me.” Avery held out the shirt’s hem and whirled in a circle so he could admire her.

“You are very welcome, Mae Bug.” He stood and took her hand to lead her to the bedroom. He loved how she bounced next to him, having fun in Little space.

“We’re going to play a game. You have fifteen seconds to go find jeans and a sweatshirt and come back to me. Are you ready? Get set! Go!” Trace stared at his watch to make it look more official.

She raced into the closet and flipped on the light.

“Fourteen,” he announced. “Thirteen.”

“I can’t find my jeans!”

“Twelve.”

“Got them.”

“Eleven.”

“My sweatshirt is in my drawer,” Avery declared as she emerged from the closet and tossed her jeans to him.

“Nine.”

“You skipped ten!” she protested as she ripped open a drawer and rifled through it.

“Eight.”

“Here! I got it! I win!” Avery hugged the sweatshirt to her body and jumped around in a celebratory circle for several seconds before stopping and turning back to look at her Daddy. “What do I win?”

“A cupcake?” he suggested.

“Yay! I won a cupcake!”

He laughed as she repeated her celebration. “Come here, Mae Bug. You’re going to make yourself dizzy.”

“I think I already am,” she confessed, weaving slightly as she walked toward him.

Trace braced her against the bed and stripped off her Little girl clothes before dressing her in the clothing she’d gathered.

“That was exciting, Daddy. You do fun things,” she said, grinning at him as he tied her sneakers.

“We do fun things together, Avery. Now, ready for a sugar high?”

“Cupcakes, cupcakes, cupcakes!” she cheered as she tugged him toward the garage.

In just a few minutes, they arrived at Little Cakes. A variety of customers already stood at the display case, trying to make up their minds. Ellie waved at Avery from the cash register before giving her two thumbs up for her choice of companion.

Feeling her face heat with embarrassment at her friend’s obvious endorsement, Avery peeked up at her Daddy as he spoke. “Now I know why it’s called Little Cakes. It’s not because the treats are small, it’s because it attracts Littles from all over the city.” He smiled and rubbed her lower back to reassure her. “What flavor are you going to choose?”
