“If you can do better than that, I’ll let you hold me however you want.” She gives my chest a shove and jumps to her feet, wobbling slightly on shaky legs. I reach out to steady her, letting my hand linger on the bare skin of her back as the heat, the connection between us, crackles. “Uhm…thanks?”

“No problem,” I say and take a step back to adjust my cock behind my zipper. “Don’t go acting all shy now, babe. You’re a hellcat.”

She shakes her head and looks away from me, hiding her discomfort with compliments behind a veil of searching for her pants. “I’m not really, but you make me all hot and bothered.”

I reach for her jeans and hold them up. “Hot and bothered is good, isn’t it?”

She glances at me over her shoulder, smirking at the sight of her jeans dangling from my fingertips. “With my track record, that’s impossible to say.” She sighs and stares at me with her heart in her eyes. “You could be the best thing that’s ever happened to me, but in my current mental state, I’m thinking you could very well be the devil arriving to carry me straight to hell.”

“Ouch.”

She’s hurt and in no headspace to hear anything, so I just nod and watch as she steps into her jeans, smiling because her panties are in my back pocket.

A crash sounds inside, the house and we both freeze. “You heard that, right?”

I nod and point toward the tower of boxes to the left of the door. We crouch down behind the boxes, out of sight, so if the intruder comes to the garage, I can see him before he can see us. My heart is racing after that mind-blowing orgasm, and I have to take deep breaths to slow down my heart and my breathing.

“Are you okay,” Maven whispers to me, tugging on my shirt.

“I’m fine,” I tell her. “We just have uninvited guests while I’m trying to come down from the Maven high.”

She rolls her eyes. “You think they came back, or we missed them?”

I think of the truck parked out front and shrug. No need to alarm her by making her think they were inside with us. “Probably saw the truck and decided to see who else you’re keeping company with.”

“This is scary,” she whispers.

“It is. Turn off your phone,” I tell her and pull mine out to tap out a quick text to Ace and the guys.

Trouble. Maven’s house. Come quick. Small group.

“What do we do? Just wait here and hope they leave?” Her fear is palpable, and I can hear the slight tremble in her voice.

I nod. “For now, you wait here. I’m going to check out what’s going on inside.” The last thing I want is to leave her alone in the garage, but that doesn’t stop me from pulling my weapon from my ankle holster and getting to my feet.

“What the fuck?”

I frown. “You know I have a gun. For situations just like this. You expect me to run in there unarmed?” I know she has a problem with the MC life, but this is ridiculous. “Don’t tell me you’re anti-gun on top of anti-MC?”

“No,” she shakes her head and lets out a sexy grunt. “I’m not anti-MC or anti-gun, I am very much anti-fucking me with a loaded gun in your boot.”

I smirk. “Sounds like the same thing to me, sweetheart.” The noises grow louder inside the house, and I take a step toward the door leading inside the house from the garage.

Maven lets out a sexy growl, and I ignore the effect it has on my body. “Obviously, I’d rather you be armed, but it’s a little…off-putting to know you had a gun strapped to your body while you fucked me.”

I smile and get in her face. “Would it make you feel better if I had it out in the truck where it would be useless to me right now?”

“No.” She gestures to me in a shooing motion with her hands. “Go on, then. And please, be safe.”

“You worried about me, Maven?” Later, I’ll address why the idea of her worrying about me is so appealing to me.

She rolls her eyes. “I mean, yes, obviously I am worried about you going in there alone with who knows how many jackasses. But also, what about me? What do I do if one of them slips past you and comes in here?”

“That won’t happen.”

She shakes her head. “But what if it does?”

I reach out to scrape a thumb across her jawline. Her silky smooth skin makes me long for things I shouldn’t, not given my background or my current life, never mind the fact that there are likely armed assholes on the other side of that door.

But dammit, something about that mixture of sweet and sassy, shy and brash, makes me want her more than I should. “It won’t. I’ve got you, babe. I told you I would protect you, and I will. No matter what.”
