“You don’t have to protect me anymore.” My throat was tight. I wasn’t sure I could bear it if he decided to let me go. Could I bring myself to beg him to keep me?
Who was I kidding? I’d get down on my knees to stay with him! If that made me weak, then I just wasn’t a strong woman. I loved him with everything I was. Every beat of my heart.
“What are you talking about? Of course, I still have to protect you! Blossom, I’ll always protect you. You’re my woman.”
Wylde cleared his throat. “Maybe I should, uh, you know.” He pointed to the door.
“Get the fuck out, Wylde.”
I trembled where I sat, and Sparkle began to whine softly. I couldn’t look at Walker. Couldn’t bear for him to tell me I could go on my way now.
“Look at me, Blossom.” I shook my head, and the tears started. “Blossom. Give me your eyes. Now.” With a heavy sigh, I did as he asked. “I’m not letting you go so don’t even think about leavin’ me. You’ve got my ink on you. I thought I explained to you this was forever.”
“I… Yeah. You did. But --”
“No buts. I could give a good Goddamn about your money, baby. I told you I have more than enough for us both. Once you’ve been inked, you’re part of us. There’s no takin’ it back, so don’t even think I’m gonna find a way out for you. You’re stuck with me.” He narrowed his gaze like he was daring me to contradict him. Or, worse, go against him in this.
“You really mean that? Because I don’t ever want to leave you! Ever!”
“Well, if you think for one moment I’m lettin’ you go just because you’re free from immediate danger and you have enough money to take care of yourself a hundred times over, you can think again. I can’t not have you in my life, baby. You… You’re my world, Blossom. We got off to a rocky start, but you’re everything to me. I love you.”
I turned and threw my arms around his neck, sobbing uncontrollably. “I love you, too! Oh, God! I love you, too!”
“It’s all right. I’ve got you. I ain’t goin’ nowhere.”
“Me neither.” I sniffed, laughing and crying at the same time now. “You know, at some point, we really need to work on our communication skills.”
He chuckled. “Yeah. You ain’t wrong.” He brushed his lips over mine once before settling in to kiss me with love and tenderness. When he pulled back, he pressed his forehead to mine. “I think we’ll make it. That’s what a relationship is all about. At least, that’s what I’ve always thought. Only ever had one, and it was kinda shitty.”
“I’ve never had one either. So maybe we can learn together.” I smiled up at him.
“I figure learnin’ is half the fun. Especially when I have such a beautiful, passionate partner.”
“Can’t help it. You bring out the passion in me, make me crazy with wanting you.”
“We can’t have that, can we?” He stood and lifted me and Sparkle into his arms and took us to our room. For the rest of the night, he showed me just how high our passion could go.
And I loved every blistering second of it.
