I flinched when Felix reached behind me to slap the back of his brother’s head. “For fuck’s sake, could you sound any creepier?” He looked away from the road for a moment to give me a sorry expression. “What he means is; we would like to take you somewhere peaceful where we can relax and have a nice conversation. We own some land in the Locust Falls area, and would love to show it to you.”

“Oh,” I sighed with relief. “That sounds really nice. I’ve heard that the area is beautiful, especially this time of year.”

“I think you’ll love it,” he smiled, and my pulse rocketed again when he patted my knee. I thought I might pass out when instead of removing his palm, he left it settled on my leg. My vision actually went blurry when Enzo did the same on my other knee. Okay, maybe I’m not crazy; maybe there’s something to this after all.

Still a little nervous, I kept my own hands folded in my lap, but I let my mind wander. It came up with all sorts of fantasies, from sweet to spicy. The only thing that brought me back to the present was the view when Felix pulled off of the main road, onto a path that led through a heavily wooded area.

The path itself wasn’t paved; rather, it was a dirt trail that was covered with brilliantly colored leaves. The same leaves were clinging to the trees above and all around us.

“It’s gorgeous here,” I said in awe, looking around quickly to take it all in. “Thank you for bringing me.”

“You’re so welcome,” Felix answered with a gentle squeeze to my leg. He pulled into a clearing amongst the trees, put the truck in park, and released my seatbelt.

Enzo was the first one out of the truck, and he held his hand out for me to grab while he helped me onto the ground. Even when both of my feet were steady, he didn’t let me loose, instead interlocking our fingers together and leading me forward.

I looked back at the truck when I heard a rustling sound, and found Felix digging through one of the plastic bags he and his brother had earlier. I’d been so excited about spending time with them that I forgot about the gifts they brought for me.

I chewed my lip in anticipation as Felix searched, and I stretched my neck to try and see what he had when he exclaimed, “Ah ha! There it is.”

When Felix shut the door and walked towards us, I could see him clearly and I found that he was carrying a thick, fuzzy blue blanket. When he reached Enzo and me, he spread the blanket out on the ground in front of us. The pair helped me down onto the fabric and nestled in on either side of me.

I flattened both of my hands on the blanket and pet it gently, letting the shaggy fibers tickle my palms. “It’s so soft and pretty.” I loved soft things, and the icy blue color was my favorite.

“It matches your eyes,” Enzo replied, and my face heated when he traced a finger down my cheek. When he pulled away, my skin cooled and a shiver rocked my body. Felix zipped my jacket tighter and made sure my scarf was covering my neck.

Once he was sure I was warm enough, he said, “We want to hear all about you.” I thought that he’d want to start with my affinity for things like the blanket and the pacifier they found me with the night before, but he surprised me by asking, “You said that today was your day off from work. What do you do?”

I let out a sigh of relief, glad that we were starting with simple things. “I work at The Codfather; it’s a fast food place that sells fish.”

“Codfather,” Enzo repeated with a chuckle. “I like it. Are you a cook there?”

“Kind of,” I shrugged. “I make french fries. Well, I guess I don’t make them; they come frozen and I just dump them in the fryer.”

“I bet you make the most delicious fries on the planet,” Felix insisted with a smile. I never thought my job was glamorous, but they were making me feel pretty special.

“What about you guys?”

Enzo replied, “We own a club with our friends. It’s called Pride Place.”

That sounded like a glamorous job. “That’s really cool.” Wait a minute. Suddenly, it all made sense; why they approached me in the store, how they knew what gifts to bring me, and the way they helped me. Thinking I had it all figured out, I guessed in a whisper, “Is it a kink club?”

“You are too adorable,” Enzo answered with a chuckle. “But no, it’s a nightclub.”

“Oh.” My cheeks heated up again. “I’m so sorry.”
