“You look gorgeous.”

Petal was the only one who knew what happened.

Gone was the temptation to go to an MC clubhouse to party. In fact, Petal had since stopped wanting to party, and instead offered to stay in and eat ice cream.

“Do you know what we need to do?” Kim asked.

Rosalie would suggest to kill all men or at least slice their dicks off, but she kept that thought to herself. She had to find a way to deal with her father without being punched or hit. She had to protect her mother and herself. Marrying into Satan’s Death Riders MC wasn’t going to do it.

“I have no idea,” Gabrielle said.

“A girls’ night. A hen night. Just us ladies. I’ve got a few friends as well. They could come. It’ll be fun. A wild night. Oh, maybe some strippers,” Kim said, throwing her hands up in the air and giving a little wriggle.

The smile on her mother’s face seemed to be solid. “That does sound lovely.”

Her mother had never partied. She never drank. Neither did Rosalie.

“I can make the arrangements for Friday.”

One week’s time. The day before she was married into her family.

“I don’t think a hen night is necessary,” Rosalie said, looking toward Petal.

“I was just going to rent some movies or stream them, ice cream, takeout. Pajama day?” Petal asked.

She and Petal had gotten the few days off at the diner to enjoy her wedding. Al had been a little taken aback to learn she was going to be married to the son of the Satan’s Death Riders MC president. The smacked ass had stopped. At least there was some good to come from it.

“Nonsense. Every woman needs to enjoy a night out before they get married. You also need to see a lot of naked men. No touching, of course.” Kim smiled.

In the past couple of weeks, she had learned Kim loved her husband. They were loyal to one another. They didn’t cheat or hurt one another.

Kim had tried to be nice but Rosalie couldn’t fall for the act. She had a feeling there was more than met the eye with this marriage.

Staring at her reflection, she had to admit, the dress was pretty. Very pretty. There was no straps and she had no idea how the top held up, but it molded to her curves and flattered them.

Gabrielle moved up behind her. Staring at their reflection, her mother’s beautiful blonde hair and blue eyes stared right back at her. Rosalie had inherited her father’s dark hair and dark eyes. She had her mother’s curves, though.

“What do you think, Mom?”

“You look so beautiful. I love you, honey.”

“I love you too.”

She would do anything for this woman. Anything at all.

She looked at her reflection and hated how empty she felt. Her mother had often talked about her getting married, how amazing it was going to be, her falling in love, being with a man she cared about.

Colt hadn’t returned to the diner but some of his biker friends had. They were rude every single chance they got. None of them hid their disdain for her, which was fine. She didn’t like them either. She wanted nothing to do with any of them, but it only gave her a hint of the nightmare she was about to enter. Once she was married, she had no doubt it would get ugly.

With the dress decided, she stepped into the changing room. Petal followed.

“How are you holding up?” Petal asked.

“She’s so happy.”

“I don’t think your mom is truly happy, Rose. I think she’s trying to make this all easier for you.” Petal moved up behind her and took care of the zip. “You’re falling apart.”

Rosalie laughed. “It’ll be fine.”

“You’re saying that a lot.”

“Because I hope to believe it. I want this to work, Petal. I do. I need her to be safe.” She rubbed at her temple, feeling sick.

“You’ve got a headache again?”

“It’ll pass.”

“You know my car is all fixed now. The roof is working. You, me, and your mom, we can climb right inside and drive. We can drive to where no one knows us.”

Rosalie smiled and turned to her friend. “Thank you, but I know them. My dad, he won’t stop until … well, let’s just say there’s a reason my mom never left.” She shrugged.

“This isn’t your…”

“Responsibility?”

“There’s no way they can make you marry him,” Petal said.

She hadn’t told her best friend the whole story. Petal didn’t know what her father was capable of.

“It will be fine,” she said.

Petal shook her head and Rosalie pushed the dress off her body.

That’s what she had to believe. It would be fine.

****

“A hen do?” Colt asked.

“Yes, a girls’ night out where no men are around,” Kim said. “I’ve already decided.”

Warden laughed. “And once your mother has decided we both know there’s no way to sway her.”
