“You know Damien is going to give you hell for buying the dogs clothes,” I remind her.

“I don’t care. They need spoiling, too.” She makes kissy faces at the dogs, causing me to laugh at how silly she looks.

“Good God.” Damien walks into the room and comes to a dead stop. “It looks like our living room puked baby stuff.”

“I know.” Rose laughs. “I hope your bigger house is done soon. I’m filling up this place. I had to start getting Gloria to store some of it at the clubhouse.”

My husband shakes his head. “I have a great idea.” He looks at my best friend. “Why don’t you stop buying things until we have the space for it?”

“I have an idea,” Rose snarks back. “Why don’t you find space for all I’m buying?”

These two bicker playfully while the dogs look back and forth between them like they’re watching a tennis match.

“Since I can see I’m not going to win this argument, I’m going to quit now.” Damien leans over to kiss my forehead. “Are you ready for dinner?”

“I think so,” I tell him, happy that the nausea hasn’t made its nightly visit yet.

Rose stays and has dinner with us, then takes both dogs home with her for their weekly sleepover and puppy playdate.

CHAPTER

THIRTEEN

DAMIAN

My phone rings, and I glance down to see my brother’s name on the screen. Fuck a duck. I don’t have time to deal with him right now.

“Hello,” I answer his call.

“Why haven’t you returned my calls? I’ve been leaving messages for over a week.” Lorenzo has been on my ass, trying to convince me to bring Milly back to Belldonnia for the rest of her pregnancy, but I keep resisting. My little peach loves Silver Spoon Falls, and I know she would miss our MC family if I tried to take her across the ocean.

“I’ve been trying to get my latest video game finished early so I can take off for a few months when my wife gives birth.” We just moved into our new home a week ago, and there’s still a ton of unpacking to do. My wife refuses to let me hire anyone to do it for us, and I don’t want her to overdo things, so we’re moving in slow and easy. Who gives a fuck if we’re still unpacking shit after the baby comes? If my wife is happy, all is good.

“Your wife should give birth at the palace.” Fuck. We’re going to start this again.

“Silver Spoon Falls is her home,” I argue. “Why don’t you come to visit and see for yourself? You can see our new house,” pops out of my mouth before I’m able to stop it. Goddamnit.

“I’ll see what I can arrange,” Lorenzo tells me before asking, “How in the hell did you get that house built so quickly?”

“You, of all people, should know that money and influence talk,” I respond.

“Touché,” Lorenzo grumbles before hanging up.

Two weeks later, my brother manages to sneak into town with Giant’s help. Lorenzo’s public schedule says he’s on vacation at my private island in the Caribbean where there are no cameras or residents to see him. I stare out the living room window at the road, waiting. Giant was picking him up from the private airstrip on the edge of town, and they should be here any minute.

“I’m so nervous.” My little peach waddles into the room. Milly is only halfway through her pregnancy, but she’s already perfectly round. “I hope Lorenzo isn’t upset with me.”

I walk over and wrap my arms around her luscious pregnant body. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of everything.”

Milly smiles up at me. “I know. It’s these freaking pregnancy hormones. They’re making me a mess.”

“I love my little peachy mess.” I kiss her cheek, then help her over to the sofa. “Rest until Lorenzo gets here.”

A few minutes later, I hear a car door slam and head to open the front door. When Giant walks in with two of my brother’s bodyguards and another man, I almost introduce myself to the man until I realize I already know him. Holy shit. Is that my stuffy older brother?

“I know it’s ridiculous.” My brother shudders and glances down at the white band t-shirt and faded jeans he’s wearing. “But Giant thought I needed to blend in.”

“It’s a good look for you,” I tell him.

“I bet.” He glances down at the huge Rottweiler puppy dancing around my feet. “I didn’t know you have a dog.”

“This is Elvis,” I tell him, pointing at my silly dog. The tension in the air is palpable, and the two bodyguards look like they’d rather be anywhere but here. Even Giant looks uncomfortable. Taking a deep breath, I decide it’s time to clear the air.

“My wife is dealing with a difficult pregnancy. I won’t have you upsetting her,” I warn him. “Get over yourself and be nice or I’ll throw you out.”
