Wyatt understood people changed. He didn’t expect a grown man to be the same person they were back in high school and college, and he saw proof of that growth in Roman. He no longer had blinders on, focusing solely on himself. He cared for those around him, more aware of their safety than his own. Roman rescued him from being shoved into the same jail cell he was currently sitting in.

That alone was enough to erase any animosity Wyatt still held for what happened in college. All that was left was admiration and want, driving him forward, coloring in the fantasies of having Roman back. It made the weight of him real, Wyatt feeling the firm body pin him down, feeling the warm breath caress his cheek.

The daydreams had him so worked up that Wyatt had to jerk off at the rest stop—not his proudest nut by a long shot, but it helped.

At least for about an hour. Then Wyatt was back to thinking about Roman, wondering how their reunion would be. When they stopped to rest for the night, Wyatt found his dreams matching those from the day.

Roman, Roman, Roman.

A broken record and one that Wyatt never felt like he could grow tired of. He was glad he’d gotten to have a second chance with him. He wanted to do everything in his power to make sure it worked, and that meant getting him out.

Which was what led him to this morning, pulling up to a grand Victorian home. Spiraling bushes and perfectly trimmed hedges lined a cobblestone driveway. The porch was just as grand as the home, with about four rocking chairs and two swinging benches. Potted ferns and bright-colored tulips hung off the white banister, pollen-drunk bumblebees drifting from flower to flower.

“Need me to get out?” Mustang asked, putting the car in drive. The rest of the crew stayed at the motel, close enough to come if he needed backup, although he highly doubted this meeting would come down to that.

“I think I’ve got it,” Wyatt said. He got out of the car and stepped into the warm Georgian summer, the slight humidity in the air feeling like a kiss compared to the oppressive humidity they had just left back in Miami. He ironed out the bottom hem of his button-up shirt and fixed one of the sleeves before heading toward the house.

Two knocks and ten seconds later, the door was opening.

“Wyatt Hernandez—damn, it’s been a while.”

Theo stood there with a smile on his freshly tanned face, teeth bright and glinting with the same strength as the diamond earring he had in his left ear. He’d always had a good smile. It was what drew Wyatt to him in the first place. His weakness was perfect teeth and a big dick—thankfully, Roman had both of those.

“It has,” Wyatt said, putting an awkward hand out to shake. Theo ignored that and pulled Wyatt in for a hug instead. The scent of expensive cologne drifted up from Theo’s neck, spicy with a little bit of softness to it.

“Come in, come,” Theo said, turning and walking barefoot into his house. Wyatt went to kick off his own shoes, but Theo told him he didn’t have to worry. “Want a tour?”

“I’m actually not sure if we’ve got a lot of time,” Wyatt said. Theo stopped, hands in the pockets of his black shorts, which ended mid-thigh and showed off an exceptionally detailed black-and-white tattoo of a pirate ship rocking through violent waves.

“Right, damn. I thought we’d have a nicer reunion than that.”

Wyatt swallowed, unsure of how to tread these waters. Theo was Wyatt’s only other ex, and he’d actually been a really good boyfriend. They met shortly after Wyatt had gotten kicked out of Yale, when Wyatt was desperate for a job and took one working for a black-hat SEO service, artificially pumping up websites on the search ranks. Theo worked for the same company, and they quickly discovered they had more in common than knowing their way around intricate code.

But Wyatt realized he wanted out. He’d already ruined his life once before by doing illegal shit, and after an acquaintance landed in federal court over doing the exact same thing they were, Wyatt balked. He quit his job and left, finding a gig at the science museum.

Theo stayed in that world. And he excelled in it, leaving the company to start his own. His life exploded in a way that made Wyatt scared, and beyond that, there was something else, something deeper.

Theo was no Roman. Even though his heart had been tender and freshly scarred, mended easily by Theo’s kisses, he knew nothing or no one could compare to the way Roman made him feel. How that man was able to lift his spirits with a wink and a smile, a soft word, or a hard kiss.
