“Well you didn’t take all of it. I do believe I told you to stay away from my fiancé,” Julia pointed out.

“I did for a long time, but he came back and now he assures me I can’t get rid of him even if I want to. I did kick him in the balls though.”

“You hurt him?” Julia made the question an accusation.

“I made myself plain. Now we have an agreement. He doesn’t tell me what to do and he gets to keep his balls intact. I’m going to ask again, what do you want, Julia? Besides me dead. I figured that one out when your loving employees took their shot last night.”

“Well, in my defense, they weren’t supposed to kill you,” Julia admitted. “They were supposed to take out your boy toy bodyguard and bring you to me since Kyle has refused to take my calls. Now I think I will kill you because I’ve put up with this nonsense long enough. Tell me something, Kyle, did you have fun killing Ed?”

“Oh, we both know that wasn’t his name,” MaeBe replied. “He was a dirtbag named Jeremy Harris, and I killed him. You need to train your boys better. He was about to kill Kyle.”

“Well Kyle wasn’t supposed to be there,” Julia snarled back. “Kyle was supposed to be staying away from you. Babe, have you decided to put her on the playing field and see how she fares against me? Is that how you want to play this? You want to put her in between us?”

Kyle shuddered. “Absolutely not. I wanted to keep her out of this, but it has been pointed out to me that if I want a relationship with the woman I love, I have to stop treating her like she’s a delicate piece of china.”

“I assure you, I’m going to break her,” Julia vowed.

“I’m sure you’ll try,” Kyle replied.

“This isn’t going to work. I know you’re angry with me.” Julia’s voice had gone low again. “I had hoped that choosing you over my father would have softened your attitude a bit. He gave me everything, but I knew who I had to pick in that moment.”

Kyle’s head shook. “You should have let him kill me because I’m not coming back to you.”

“All right. You’re still angry,” Julia conceded. “I can understand that. I can even understand punishing me with that ridiculous little girl.”

“Ridiculous little woman, please.” She had her standards. And she wasn’t all that ridiculous. Was it silly to enjoy board games and coloring her hair? Life was short. Why should she spend all of it plotting and planning and worrying?

Julia ignored her. “It’s not like I’ve been faithful. I understand physical needs, Kyle, but you can’t push me much further.”

She was a legit crazy person.

She felt better talking to this woman now. Had she imagined that Julia was some demon who’d tormented her? She was a kind of sad chick who didn’t know when to let go. “Why don’t you tell us what you want from Kyle and I’ll explain to you how you’re not going to get it.”

“I think I’ll get whatever I want because if I have to, I’ll start killing people,” Julia said in a husky tone, as though the very idea of killing was sexy to her.

These were the games she played with Kyle. Sick games that she thought were foreplay.

“Just tell me what you want,” Kyle said, moving toward the desk.

“I want the files my father left behind.” Julia finally got to the point. “Drake has to know where they are.”

“Why would Drake know where your father hid burn files? He didn’t even know your father was a double agent.” Kyle pointed out the simple truth.

“He knows my dad better than anyone but me. And he still has contact with our mom. I can’t exactly ask her advice since I did try to kill her,” Julia said. “I’ve looked in the places I think he might have kept it and it’s not there. I want you and Drake to find it for me. Bring it to me and I might not hurt your family the way you’ve hurt me. When you bring me what I need, I will have an unassailable place in the organization and that will be good for all of us. For you and me and Drake. You don’t have to work if you don’t want to. I’ll have more than enough money for all of us.”

“You want to make Kyle a house husband?” She tried to envision it. And couldn’t.

“I want to take care of the man I love,” Julia shot back. “And you, little girl, better walk away now. I’ll get you one way or another if you don’t.”

“And my little dog, too?” She couldn’t not poke the bear it seemed.

“I mean it, bitch.” Julia sounded like a pressure cooker ready to explode. “Get me what I want or I’ll go after the kiddos. Do you think Kyle’s sister can handle me? Or his youngest brother? How about his mom?”
