Joe didn’t need her to elaborate.

Kelly, the florist, had fallen in love with her childhood sweetheart, and they had two children together. Lived as a happy family for ten years. Then a tourist passed through, and Andrew had found his mate, and Kelly and the kids became a thing of the past. He didn’t even know if Andrew talked to his kids anymore, that was how fast life had changed for them. It had been horrible to witness. Kelly still hadn’t found her mate, but she had raised two amazing kids, at least that’s what Joe remembered. He hadn’t seen them since his return to the pack.

“I didn’t want to start something with anyone that I didn’t know for sure would end with us together. I don’t know how this is going to work between us, and I’m not just saying that, it’s exactly how I feel.” She nibbled her lip. “I’m scared.”

Joe stepped toward her and cupped her face. “You’ve got nothing to be afraid of.” He stared at her beautiful, full lips, and all he could think about was kissing them. Running his thumb across those lips, the temptation was so strong, and he couldn’t bring himself to stop. Closing the distance between them, he was just a breath away from kissing those luscious lips when her words seemed to penetrate his thoughts. “Experience?” He pulled back just a little.

“Huh?”

“You said you didn’t have a lot of experience. What does that mean exactly?”

Her face was a beautiful shade of red, but he had a feeling he knew what it meant. He needed to hear it from her.

“You know what it means.” She tried to pull away, but Joe didn’t want to have any more distance between them. He couldn’t stand the thought of there being anything but the two of them close together.

His wolf didn’t like any kind of distance while they were in the same room. There was a lot his wolf wasn’t accepting.

“Tell me.”

“Joe?”

“Tell me.”

She sighed and her gaze moved past his shoulder and there she went again, nibbling on her lip, which was so fucking tempting to him.

“I’m a virgin.”

He knew it. He fucking knew it, and Joe couldn’t help but smile. He’d known there was a chance she had been with other men before. There was a fifteen-year age gap between them, so he assumed there had to have been other wolves. But there weren’t.

He was so damn happy, but before he answered her questions, he needed to kiss those beautiful full lips.

Running his thumb over her mouth, he closed the distance between them intent on kissing her and not stopping for a second. Before he did, there was a little confession he had to make.

“Darcy, so am I,” he said.

****

Darcy pulled away even though she wanted that kiss so damn badly. Would it be so wrong to give in to that kiss, but then she knew if they didn’t talk about this, she wouldn’t be able to think about anything else.

“What? No, you lie?” Darcy asked, frowning.

“I’m not lying. I’ve never been with another woman.”

“But … you’re a teenager. I mean, you were a teenager, and aren’t all boys obsessed with sex?” Darcy asked.

At least, that was what she had been told. His friends Ryan and Wade were notorious for sleeping around the pack. They were not in the settling down mood. The way they behaved, she had to wonder if they would even stop if they were mated.

“Teenage boys are obsessed with sex.”

“But you’re not.”

Joe smiled. “I am obsessed with sex and in fact, I do want to have sex. Several opportunities have been open to me, but I just haven’t taken them.”

Darcy didn’t like the instant hit of jealousy that struck her hard and fast. She couldn’t help but rub at her chest, a little taken aback by the sudden pain of him being with someone else. She didn’t even realize she was rubbing her chest until Joe grabbed her hand.

“What is it?” he asked. “What’s wrong?”

At first she was a little confused as to why he was asking her, and then she realized what she was doing.

“Oh, no, it’s fine. I just … feelings.” She didn’t want to tell him the truth.

“What kind of feelings?” he asked.

He had to go and ask, even though she didn’t want to talk about her feelings, or anything to do with her emotions. She didn’t want to lie to him either. Was this what every mate went through?

Darcy groaned and then closed her eyes before admitting the truth. “I didn’t like the thought of you being with other women. I mean, I thought you might have been … you know, spreading your wild oats or whatever the term is.”

He let out a chuckle and she couldn’t help but open her eyes and see him chuckling at her.
