“I love you.”

“And I love you.”

Epilogue

Five Years Later

Darcy couldn’t help but laugh as Joe knelt in the yard in the back garden, and their son, Nate, ran to him and started to climb all over his back.

This was a scene she was used to, especially during the summer. It was rare to find her children and husband anywhere else.

Their daughter, Natasha, was also joining in the fun, even though she was only three years old, and acted like she was invincible.

If their unborn child was anything to go by, then he or she would be climbing all over their father as well. She pressed a hand to her swollen stomach. It was like their baby knew playtime was happening, and was intent on trying to wriggle out.

Darcy put the potato salad on the table and knew Joe would be along to sort out the barbeque in a moment. Ryan and Wade, as well as their families, were coming for lunch. Joe’s best friends had found their mates, and had a couple of children themselves.

Their circle had expanded quite rapidly, and Joe loved to have them for dinner during the summer. Also, at Thanksgiving. They also invited his parents and his sister.

Like the garden monster he was pretending to be, suddenly, Joe burst up, and Nate and Natasha had to hold on for their life, wrapping their arms around their father as he started to walk slowly. Darcy knew he wouldn’t let either of them fall.

Their son and daughter started to scream, asking to be let down. Joe continued to play for a few extra minutes, and then slowly lowered them to the ground. He hugged them both, and of course, like so many times before, they screamed for him to do it again and again.

“Mom’s ready for me to start cooking food.”

They both moaned.

“Go and clean up.”

They didn’t argue, which was very unusual.

Joe herded them up past her, and she smiled at him. He dropped a kiss on her lips, before going to the back door. “And don’t mess around either. I don’t want the downstairs flooded like last time.”

Darcy had to hold back her chuckle. Not too long ago their children had gotten carried away while washing their hands, and started to play, leaving the water running, and it had spilled over the sides of the sink and began to flood the downstairs. Joe hadn’t been impressed, mainly because he’d been one of the culprits who’d been playing with them.

“How is my beautiful mate?” he asked.

“Happy,” she said. “Very happy.”

He cupped her face, tilting her head back, and kissed her passionately. “Good.” He dropped to his knees. “And how is our baby?”

“Very active. I think she or he would love to have been jumping all over you.”

Joe chuckled. “And what about you, huh? Would you love to be jumping all over me?”

Darcy laughed. “The day is young.”

“That is a promise.” He kissed her stomach one final time and then got to his feet. “Are you really happy?”

She had noticed he asked her this regularly. “Yes, I am happy. Are you?”

“More than I could have imagined.”

She was living the dream. Darcy couldn’t believe how different her life had become, and it was all because of Joe.

At the sound of the doorbell, Joe groaned. It was time to entertain their guests.
