But Kane was gone, and so was Uncle Kurt, which meant he’d been the one to deal with his son in the end.

The anger, which had already simmered in Leo’s chest, started cooling by the time Rain greeted him with a familiar pinch on the shoulder. “Good job with taking the kids away on time. I predict only minor trauma,” she said, leaning against the wall with a crooked smile.

Her presence made Leo relax somewhat. Out of all his siblings, his younger sister was the one he shared the closest bond with. Maybe because, like him, she was a bit of an outsider within the family despite fitting in on the surface.

Tall, lean, and androgynous, dressed head to toe in black and metal studs, even she attracted more girls than Leo. At least none of them stood a chance now that Rain was married.

“Or scarred for life if they got a glimpse of Kane’s dick.”

They shared a knowing smile, silently acknowledging their mutual dislike of their cousin. Still, he was family, so it wasn’t as if they could get rid of him.

“When you have your own kids, you’ll have to keep them away from that madman. If we’re lucky, he’ll get locked up and only come back once the babies are all grown up,” Rain said.

Leo smiled. “One step at a time. I need to get married first.”

Rain rolled her eyes and lit herself a cigarette. “It’s not a requirement...”

Leo took a deep breath and pulled out the small ring box. “I hope it’ll happen sooner rather than later.”

“No, I mean, look at Uncle Kurt. He’s not married and still has kids.”

“Rain, you’re not listening.” Leo shook the little box in front of her face. “I wanna propose tonight.”

Her smoky eyes darkened. “To who?”

“What do you mean? To Amanda, of course. What the hell?” Leo spread his arms in frustration.

Her lips remained open, but it took her a few seconds to speak again. “You’ve known her for two months,” she said, lowering her voice to a whisper.

“Three months.”

“Okay, three months then. That’s hardly long enou—”

Leo pocketed the box. “You married Mona within months of meeting her.”

“Yeah, but she’s different. She fits in with us. Mona rides a dirt bike, likes our biker parties, and doesn’t mind how we do business. Amanda? She’s a secretary at a car dealership and doesn’t like to get dirty.”

Leo shook his head. “She’s sweet, hot, but not too hot, and total wife material.”

Rain shook her head, staring at him with wide eyes. “Not too hot? What—what are you talking about? You’ve never been the jealous type. Guys ogle my Mona all the time, and I don’t get upset.”

Leo needed a cigarette, so he grabbed one out of Rain’s pack. “But you’re… you. Mona’s head over heels about you. Maybe I’m just not meant for something that wild.” Even though at the bottom of his heart, ‘wild’ was exactly what he wished for.

Rain rested her hands on her hips, pressing her lips together until they became a white line. “If you don’t think Amanda’s head over heels for you, don’t ask her to marry you.” She shook her head when Leo filled his lungs to speak. “Don’t give me that look. Okay, maybe she really is The One, but if you’re not sure, give it some time?”

“Listen, I’ve got a plan, and I’m nowhere near fulfilling it. This is really not what I needed to hear from my favorite sister tonight. You might be losing your spot on the siblings chart.” Leo wanted to make it a joke, but the smile he managed was only a grimace, so he finished the conversation by walking off.

And there she was. Emerging from the clubhouse along with Rain’s wife, Mona, Amanda was like a breath of innocence in this hotbed of aimless hedonism. Dressed in a short—yet not too short—black dress with a neckline that was just low enough to be sexy without showing too much. She laughed, shaking her blonde locks at something Mona said.

He couldn’t wait to see that ring on her finger.

And once she accepted his proposal, Leo’s life would be smooth sailing. He’d have between two and four kids, a house close to the club, and hell, maybe they could even get a dog.

“Babe! I’ve been looking all over for you.” He jogged up to her as if she was the beacon leading him to his future.

Mona gave him a little wave and rushed to her wife’s side, all bouncy tits and locks of brown hair all over the place. Amanda raised her eyebrows when she noticed his eyes straying, so he pulled her in for a quick kiss.

Her attention was back to where he wanted it. On him. Only now the ring really was burning his flesh, and his original plan was a no-go.

“I’ve only been gone for a couple of minutes. I don’t believe you really missed me this much,” she said with a wide grin and flirtatiously tapped his chest.
