Epilogue – Leo

Leo was aware of the fact that Zolt might have laughed off a proposal if Leo hadn’t asked for his hand in such dramatic circumstances, but all’s well that ends well. Leo and Zolt married soon after Leo felt better, and since the Exterminators had acknowledged their mistake, the fifty grand originally paid for Trowley’s head, as well as some extra cash for damages, returned to Zolt. That meant he not only had enough money to get the shop back up and running but also purchased a new Rolex—even if a much cheaper model.

Leo’s family was still adjusting to the side of him they’d never known about, but there were milestones, like Kane no longer making homophobic jokes every single time Leo walked into the room, and Mike not asking intrusive questions about his and Zolt’s sex life as often as before.

But Leo needed to make changes in his own heart, too. The recovery period had given him a lot of time to think. Being open about his relationship with Zolt was a whole new ballgame, and it took him a while to accept that it didn’t matter how he identified, because to many people, he would always be ‘the gay Heller’ regardless. He had to give up on always correcting others, since he knew in his heart what he felt, and that was good enough.

Since Zolt was now a prospect, general levels of stupid shit thrown at him were expected, but once the two of them married, the guys settled into a confusion that didn’t often rear its ugly head. Especially since Zolt was no kid. He had a business that benefited the MC, and commanded respect in his own right. Zolt had after-work bouncer duties, and on his days off, got called in to do other tasks for the club, but he took it in his stride. He didn’t need Leo’s protection, and was perfectly capable of handling the guys. If anything, he’d had to tell Leo to back off so that he could work out the relationships with his future brothers on his own.

Zolt claimed that if he was to get tied down, then his honeymoon needed to be perfect, so Leo wasn’t surprised that the Caribbean islands were his destination of choice. Leo was in a beach hut on St. Lucia when he got a call that sent him running down the wooden stairs and toward the pristine, sandy beach.

The warm breeze hit his face as he sped through the small garden around the property, but just as he was about to reach the wooden gate, something grabbed the tip of his flip flop, sending him face-first into the stone path.

He smashed into the rocks, and could already see Zolt getting up from his sunchair and raising his shades, but as soon as Leo picked himself up, he ran despite the blood dripping down his face and the sting in his knees.

“Zolt!”

Zolt rose in the shade of a palm tree, looking magnificent in his beach shorts. “Are you okay?”

“No! Zolt! You won’t believe it!” Leo ran, frustrated that the hot sand was slowing him down, but he finally reached his husband and grabbed his hands. “Twins! She’s having twins!”

Zolt blinked, his smile careful, but he did pull Leo into his arms. “Well, then congratulations are in order, Daddy.”

Leo grinned and wrapped his arms around Zolt’s waist, settling his cheek on Zolt’s shoulder, uncaring about the bloodstains he was leaving on the warm skin. “I’m so over the moon. Now we gotta get double of everything. I’m just so… so happy.”

Zolt rested his cheek against Leo’s head, holding him tightly in the glow of the Caribbean sun. “Will that be enough for you? Me, the kids you have with Mona, and the Caribbean once a year?”

Leo squeezed him even tighter despite the pain in his shoulder. Four months had passed since he’d been shot, and his arm wasn’t as agile as it had been, but right now he couldn’t care less. His heart was so full it could burst. “Yes. It’s everything I never knew I wanted.”
