“This is really nice, Harlee.”

“Okay, you saw my bedroom, now let’s go.”

“What about the bathroom?” I made my way toward it.

“Braxton, no!” she shouted as she shot forward and attempted to grab my arm, tripping over a small rug.

I reached out to help steady her. “Jesus, Harlee. Are you hiding a dead body in the tub or something?”

Her eyes widened in horror. “Worse!”

It was my turn to look surprised. “Is Thomas still here?”

She pulled her head back as she replied, “What? God, no!” Then she tilted her head and stared at me. “Did you think he’d still be here? Is that why you came over so quickly?” A suspicious expression grew on her face. “Were you bothered at the idea of him being here?”

I let out a short bark of laughter. “Don’t be ridiculous.”

She tossed her hands up in frustration. “Then why are you here, Brax?”

“We’re going to Lighthouse Island, remember?” Turning, I headed into the bathroom.

“Brax, please don’t go in there. Ugh! Stop!”

I walked into the bathroom and was about to comment on the large space…when I saw what Harlee had been so worried about me finding…there, in all its glory, sitting on the bathroom sink.

A vibrator.

I raised my brows and turned to her. “Did I interrupt something?”

She shot me a look. “Yes, you did. Playtime.”

My dick instantly went hard. “Playtime?”

She shrugged nonchalantly.

“Don’t they say it’s better to play with two instead of by yourself?”

Her eyes darkened, and I saw her attempt to swallow. She straightened and lifted her lips into a half smile. “Are you offering to join in on my playtime, Brax?”

Jesus, Mary, and all the saints above. I wanted to tell her yes. Hell yes. I wanted to pick up that vibrator and do all kinds of things to her gorgeous body. Things I had dreamed about for years. Instead, I leaned against the doorjamb and tried to calm my racing heart. What if it was Thomas’s visit that had gotten her hot and bothered?

“And before you ask, I wasn’t thinking of Thomas,” she said.

That made me raise one single brow. Was she a fucking mind reader now? “Who were you thinking of then?”

Her eyes darted to my mouth then back up again. “A girl doesn’t have to fantasize about a man to have an orgasm. My hands can do the job on their own and give me just as much pleasure as a man’s.”

It took everything I had not to react to that mental picture. “I don’t know about that, Harlee. I bet I can do a far better job bringing you to orgasm with my hands and mouth than that thing can.”

Her cheeks turned bright red, but she kept her mouth pressed into a tight line.

“Do you need to finish? I can wait.”

She gave me a coy look. “Did you plan on standing there and watching me?”

God. Give. Me. Strength.

“Hey, if you can perform with an audience, I’m more than happy to wait for you right here while I enjoy the show.”

She laughed, shook her head, and walked closer. I slowly inhaled when she stood before me, looking up at me with those big blue eyes. “The urge is gone now, unfortunately.”

I felt the side of my mouth lift up slightly. “Why do I feel like that was an insult?”

She lifted up onto her toes and placed her mouth next to my ear, and I had to fight the urge to touch her. Her warm breath tickled my neck as she whispered, “Because it was, Braxton. Now get the hell out of my bedroom so I can get dressed.”

Harlee

Brax stared at me for the longest time before he pushed off the doorjamb and headed out of my bedroom. Once I heard the door softly click shut, I reached for something to hold myself up.

I brought my hand up to my chest, only to feel my heart pounding. I closed my eyes, swallowed hard, and slowly shook my head. “That was insane.”

For some strange reason, I got the idea that Brax thought I’d been horny after Thomas’s visit. Which was a joke. It was from hearing Brax on the phone. That gravelly voice. I was turned on from picturing him standing in his house, fresh from a shower, insisting he knew that Ruby was Ms. Seaside.

It was also from the idea that Brax wanted me to help him figure out this mystery…that he actually wanted to spend time with me.

Ever since that night so long ago, all we did was bicker with one another. When he’d first approached me about trying to find out who was writing the gossip column, I had initially panicked. But once the idea settled in, and I came up with a plan to throw him off his game, I got excited.

The thought of spending more time with Brax was both thrilling and a little sad at the same time. Sad because I still had feelings for the jackass, and normally I was fueled with rage when I thought of that night so long ago. Not lust. This whole renewed lust thing was more recent.
