When she’s in a T-shirt and sweats, I carry her out to the living room to get away from that smell and lay her on the couch. I grab her blanket and tuck it around her, then prop a pillow up under her head.

Figuring she’s in pain and probably dehydrated, I snag a cold water bottle from the fridge and two pain pills from the cabinet. After she’s taken them and drunk half the bottle of water, I sit across from her so we can talk.

“I know you’re not feeling well, but I need you to tell me what happened last night.”

Her brows knit together in confusion, so I pull out my phone—thankfully, it’s waterproof—and click on the post, turning it to face her. She stares at each of the photos while I swipe from picture to picture until I get to the last one.

“Can you tell me what happened?”

A single tear wells in her eye, then skates down her cheek, and my stomach tightens in anticipation.

“Kaylee... You didn’t sleep with Justin, right? There’s a reason you’re naked in bed with him and he’s touching you.”

More tears fall down her face, and then finally, she speaks, and I almost wish she wouldn’t have. “I... think...” Her face scrunches up in agony, and she bites her bottom lip hard as if the words hurt too much to come out, and I know whatever she says is going to kill me. “I think I did... sleep with him.”

And just like that, my entire world is blown apart for the second time by this woman.

“You had sex with him?” I choke out, needing a verbal confirmation.

“I think so.”

“What do you mean, you think so?” I ask, staying calm even though I want to lash out. My blood is boiling beneath my skin, and my heart is racing behind my rib cage. I have so many thoughts running through my head, and the only reason I can think as to why I’m not freaking out is because I’m numb.

“I didn’t think I drank a lot, but I must’ve,” she says, making no fucking sense. “I thought I was alone, and then he was there. I... I think I wanted to take a shower. I was naked, and he helped me to my bed.” She swallows thickly, and a fresh wave of tears fills her lids and falls over. She drops her chin to her chest and shakes her head. “I don’t really remember,” she whispers, refusing to look at me. “I think he kissed me... maybe. I’m so sorry. I wish I could tell you more, but I don’t remember. I must’ve drunk more than I thought, but I swear...” She glances up at me, her eyes rimmed red in devastation. “I wouldn’t cheat on you, and I wouldn’t let someone take my picture. I don’t know what happened, but...” She chokes on a sob and covers her face. “I’m so sorry.”

We sit in silence—her crying and me trying to figure out what the fuck happened—and finally, after several minutes, I come to a conclusion. She didn’t do this. She wouldn’t do this. I don’t care how drunk she was. And since she doesn’t remember—and yes, I believe she really doesn’t fucking remember—I’m going to need to get my answers from the only other person who would know anything, who has absolutely no reason not to remember.

“I need to go talk to Justin,” I tell her gently, making her eyes pop open in shock. “Will you be okay here while I’m gone?” Layla had said she was coming over, but she never showed up. I don’t want to leave Kaylee, but I need answers, and I’m not going to get them here. There are pictures all over the goddamn internet that make it look like my girlfriend cheated on me, and I need to know what the hell happened.

Kaylee nods, and I lean forward, kissing her forehead. “I’m going to find out what happened,” I promise. Before I go, I find her dead phone and put it to charge near her on the couch, then help her get situated, so she’s lying down. She’s still crying softly, and I hate that. Fucking hate it. “I’ll be back soon,” I tell her, then head out, locking up behind me.

CHAPTER THIRTY

BRAXTON

On my way to Justin’s apartment, I pull up Layla’s name to see if she’s still coming over and find a text from her: My freaking water broke! Camden is driving me to the hospital. I can’t get ahold of Kaylee. Please call me! I know she wouldn’t do this.

I press call, and she picks up on the first ring. “Have you seen her?”

“Yeah, I just left her apartment. She was sleeping, and when she woke up, she threw up everywhere.” Speaking of which, I need to call someone to clean that shit up because there’s no way I’m touching it.
