Braxton: About?

Me: You moving in with me...

Braxton: Are you drunk?

I laugh and am about to type back that I’m nowhere near drunk, but as I try to find the right letters, my vision goes a bit fuzzy, and I wonder if maybe I am drunker than I thought. Regardless, I came to the conclusion that I wanted him to move in with me before I had any drinks. However, now that I’m thinking about it, it’s probably for the best if we talk face-to-face and not through text messages after I have been drinking.

“Miss Thomas, we’re here,” Justin announces, pulling into the garage that’s connected to my building.

He opens the door for me, and when I try to grab the handle as support, I stumble forward, almost doing a face-plant into the concrete before Justin catches me.

“Thank you,” I say, my words coming out a bit slurred. “My alcohol must be catching up with me.”

“It’s okay,” he says. “I’m going to walk you up to your place.”

“Oh, it’s okay, I can...” But before I finish my sentence, I trip over my heels, and Justin grabs my arms to stabilize me.

“I’ve got you,” he says.

Since I don’t want to die, and I’m clearly drunker than I thought, I let him help me up to my apartment. We’re coming in from the garage, so we head straight into the elevator. Justin has a key for emergencies, and he uses it, pressing the correct number for my floor.

As the elevator ascends, my body seems to heat, and my limbs begin to tingle. I find my phone in my clutch, where I dropped it, and send a message to Braxton.

Me: I miss yu

Braxton: You already said that, Crazy.

Me: Yeh but I realllllyyyyy mis yu

Braxton: You okay, baby?

Me: I want u send me a pic

While I wait for him to respond, the elevator doors open, and Justin helps me out and down the hall to my place. As we walk, it feels as though the floor is bouncy, making it hard to take each step.

“Is it hot in here?” I ask when he unlocks the door for me, and we walk inside.

“Not really.”

“I’m so... hot.” My body is on fire, my heart pounding behind my rib cage. “Maybe I just need to get naked. Thank you for bringing me home.” I drop my clutch on the table and then stumble to my room, lifting my dress over my head as I go. Next, my bra and panties come off and finally, my heels. I’m so warm and my body buzzing. I can’t decide if I want to take a shower or go to bed.

Needing to cool down, I turn the shower water on. But before I make it in, a masculine voice comes from behind. “I think you should go straight to bed.”

I twirl around—at least in my head, I do—but since my body isn’t cooperating, it’s more like a stumble. I’m not sure why Justin’s still here, but my head is too fuzzy to give it much thought.

Justin enters the bathroom and reaches around me to turn off the water. When his arm rubs against my front, the material brushes against my nipple, and it hits me... I’m naked in the bathroom with Justin.

“I think you need to go,” I say, glancing around for my robe. As my eyes scan the bathroom, everything goes blurry. My legs feel like Jell-O, and it’s hard to focus. I think Justin says something, but I can’t concentrate enough to make it out. My skin is scorching hot, and I just want to get cold. It’s hard to catch my breath. I need to call Braxton. Something is wrong. Very wrong.

I hear more words being said, but it now sounds like I’m underwater. How is that possible? My apartment is on the eleventh floor.

And then I’m lifted. Oh, thank God. I didn’t want to drown. Someone is carrying me. I try to open my eyes to see who it is, but the room is spinning. I’m hot and drowning and floating all at the same time.

I’m set on something soft.

More words.

I can’t hear anything, though.

And then a warm breath is on me. “It’s okay, Kaylee. Just close your eyes, and everything will be okay.”

Braxton? Is that Braxton? I don’t think it is. He’s across the country still... I think. But maybe he came home.

I try to call his name, tell him I’m feeling funny, but the words... they just won’t come out.

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

BRAXTON

Bailey: Call me ASAP.

Bailey: There’s no way this is real.

Camden: Call me.

Declan: As soon as you land, call me. Don’t do anything stupid.

Easton: Call me.

Layla: I know Kaylee, and she wouldn’t do this. I’m going over to see her now.

I stare at the onslaught of texts that hit my phone the second I turned it back on. Normally, when we need to go somewhere, we take the Blackwood jet, which means we have cell service, but since the meeting was scheduled at the last minute, the jet was already being used, so I had to fly commercial, and my phone has been off for the past four hours.
