“You did that, Luis. You first showed up when my father was still in Kentucky, but had moved out. His visits were getting less and less frequent. My mama was dating again, and you slid right on in. Not a second to spare. Then, when Daddy moved back here, you started the grooming. All of a sudden, I was gettin’ extra money for lunch. I had been on the free lunch program, but you got me off there, and even told me to go on and get chips and cookies, too. I got toys. All the Hot Wheels and Transformers a boy could dream of! I got candy. I loved candy… my dentist knew I loved it, too, because I soon had a cavity. You paid for the dental bill, and you did it wit’ a smile.

“For me, every day was Christmas. I didn’t quite understand why you didn’t give my baby sister some of that stuff, too. You pretty much ignored her, but I found out the reason why later. Didn’t I?”

His fingers itched and twitched as he thought about all the things he wanted to poke and stab him with. Luis’ eyes remained cold and icy, and he just kind of rested against that wall. Deflated.

“Then, you started kissin’ me on my cheek a lot. No big deal. I had seen a lotta daddies do that to their sons and we know how affectionate us Puerto Ricans can be. Ain’t nothin’ perverted about it. Just pure fatherly love. But, with you, it didn’t stop there.” Legend shook his finger at him. “It turned into more hugs and kisses, and the hugging got tighter… and tighter. Rubbin’ up and down my body. You were wanting me to sit on your lap, even when I felt I was too big to be doin’ that.” He smiled sadly. “I did it anyway, ’cause I wanted to make you happy, and you told me it was okay. But then, it stopped bein’ okay. Didn’t it, Luis?”

Legend grabbed a jug from the floor and shook it vigorously. The liquid inside sloshed around. He began pacing back and forth, his heart rate increasing, and he chomped at the bit. Yearning to hear the screams and pure panic from a heller.

“You started comin’ into my room, waking me up, in the mornings, and late at night. You wanted to help me get washed up before school, give me baths at night. I didn’t like how you were lookin’ at me though, Luis, but I was a little boy.” He shrugged. “I ain’t really know why I didn’t like it. I just knew I didn’t. You were giving me baths and touchin’ things you had no business touchin’. And you’d linger there… for a long time. Sometimes, you’d just come into my room and stare at me. Sometimes, I’d pretend to be asleep, hoping that would make you go away. Sometimes, I’d stare right back at you. When I did, you would say, ‘You look so peaceful, Legend.’ Isn’t that crazy? A monster, tellin’ me that I look peaceful, knowin’ he’s about to ruin that peace, bit by bit.

“I guess…” Legend swallowed, trying to calm his nerves, “…I guess all that wasn’t enough after a while. You took it to the next level. Degenerates like you always do. You get titillated from replaying what you did in your warped mind—that’s why so many of y’all videotape the shit, risk getting caught. It’s worth it to you. You’ll do anything to get your rocks off. That brings us to the next act in the show. That first time you pissed on me…” Legend picked up the jug of piss and shook it enthusiastically. “I had started getting mad. Fighting you. I was very small, even for my age back then, but I tried to bite you when you came into my room one night to get some ‘candy,’ as you called it.

“I was squirming and hitting and biting… itty bitty boy… and I was crying, beggin’ you not to do it again. ‘Please don’t touch me like that,’ I said. I was such a polite child, even while being tormented. You got mad. I wasn’t cooperating. So you took your clothes off, every stitch, and forced me onto the middle of the bed. I figured this was the part where you start fondling me, and all that weird shit you were into, but instead, you stood there and pissed on me. And you laughed… and laughed… and laughed some more. And then, you climaxed right in front of me…”

Legend sucked his teeth as his temper soared, and his mind felt as if firecrackers were flashing on and off inside of it. He was back in that little house he grew up in, all over again. He could smell the liquor on the men’s breaths, the food burning on the stove that Luis had forgotten about in all his excitement. He could see the flash of colors from when he disappeared outside of himself, imagining a world full of rainbows, love, and light.
