He had Ubered the first time he had arrived in Fever Falls, but since I couldn’t wait to see him, I said I’d pick him up from the airport. It was the same one he’d jetted me out from when I returned to Parlaisa for the interview, just twenty minutes outside of Fever Falls.

As I waited for my sort-of-boyfriend in the kiss-n-ride of the small airport, I noticed my eagerness transforming into anxiety. I was so excited about finally scratching this itch that had been intensifying during the time we hadn’t been able to continue where we’d left off in his room in the palace.

I wanted so much from him, but still, this discomfort lingered within me.

The discomfort quickly dissolved once I saw Owen step out of the automatic doors that pulled apart, as though presenting him in all his royal grandeur. He wore a button-down with the collar open, revealing small strands of his chest hair. As he adjusted his sunglasses with his free hand, he rolled his suitcase behind him, finding my piece-of-shit car fairly effortlessly, but smiling like he didn’t care, like he was just as glad to see me as I was to see him.

I slid out of the driver’s seat, hurrying to meet him at the trunk.

I expected a hug, but he went right in for a kiss, pushing me back against the car.

I heard a loud crash, and it took me a moment to realize it was the handle of his suitcase smashing against the asphalt. As soon as his hands moved under my shirt, probing at my flesh, I knew why he’d abandoned his luggage—we were both that greedy for one another’s touches once again.

I hooked both arms around him, and some impulse within me was so overpowering that I found myself leaping up, wrapping my legs around his waist. One of his hands gravitated to my ass, gripping it tight.

“Mmm…” He pulled away, his hot breath tickling my lips. “There’s the ass I’ve been missing.”

“I haven’t really given you a chance to miss it yet.”

“I have a feeling that once we get more acquainted, you might have a hard time keeping me out.”

A rush of energy moved from my core out through my arms, to my fingertips.

He offered another kiss, slow, sensual, licking his tongue across my own.

“We might want to get your bag in the trunk before security comes over here,” I added when I finally managed to break free of his lips.

“Really? I was thinking security might try to stop me if I wanted to put my bag inside your trunk right now.” With a gentle squeeze of my ass, he left no confusion about how badly he wanted to do just that.

We couldn’t help but kiss once more before he stowed his luggage away and we slipped into the front seats, gazing at one another, smiling.

I was glad he was finally with me again. And I knew we’d have a problem making it to the hotel as soon as our lips were back together once again. I was all nerves and frantic haste as we went at each other far more intensely than we had the last time we’d been together. There was something about having been deprived for as long as we had been in the ever-increasing anticipation of this very moment that had been amplified by each chat we had prior to it.

My mouth finally went numb before we pulled away, and I noticed a security guard standing beside another as they giggled together, then looked at us. Owen looked back, noticing, before turning to me and saying, “It looks like we have people enjoying the show. And you’re blushing again. I missed that blush.” He kissed my cheek, which I was sure made it a whole other shade of red.

Owen turned and waved at our audience, who waved back, still chuckling like it was the most exciting thing they’d gotten to see all day.

Realizing we’d more than worn out our welcome, we started off.

“Did you talk to your brother before you headed out?” I asked him.

“I said my goodbyes. He seemed a little too busy to be bothered, but that’s not really anything new when you know my brother.”

It didn’t sound encouraging or like they were making any progress in terms of communicating with one another.

“And Sharon?”

“She was thrilled I was coming to see you. Not as thrilled as Cassie, but surely she can tell I’m a little hung up. In fact, it’s something I’ve had to admit to myself more and more recently.”

“Well, I’m very pleased to be added to your long list of lovers that you’ve been hung up on.”

“Keegan, I don’t get hung up. Ever.”

“I guess you can’t say that anymore, then.”

Owen looked at me again, that feral passion in his expression. But we finally managed to control our impulses. I figured it was at least in part because we both realized the sooner we returned to the hotel, the sooner we’d be able to sate this desire within us.
