“Goddammit,” he said. His gaze returned to my lips, as though he was thinking about the kiss we shared as much as I was. “It’s a shame we didn’t have more time, but I do have to go take care of something pretty urgent right now.”

Considering how he’d gone from easing up with me to being totally on edge, I didn’t doubt it.

“What hotel are you staying at?” he asked.

“The incredibly elegant two-star Parlaisan Center Hotel,” I said, which made him smile.

“All right. I’ll look you up,” he added before abruptly heading off.

I opened my mouth, feeling like we needed to exchange numbers or something, but he’d already slipped through the crowd.

Disappointment coursed through me as once again he left me confused as hell.

“That went well,” Casey said as I approached him and Steve, who were still standing beside the bar.

“Well, not that great,” I admitted.

“You didn’t get his number?”

“I didn’t get anything.”

“Okay, well, you got a little more than nothing, that’s for sure,” Steve teased, obviously referencing that kiss…that fucking kiss.

“I know, right? What was that all about?” Casey asked. “Did you guys, like, blow in the restroom and he couldn’t get enough of you?”

“No, definitely no restroom blowing. In fact, I don’t even really know how to explain what happened in there other than he said he thought I was someone else and he was clearly mad at this person. So I’m glad I wasn’t them, and if he finds them, I feel very sorry for them.”

“He thought you were someone else?” Steve asked, as though that made about as much sense to him as it had to me.

“I don’t know. He kind of freaked out with me in the bathroom and just left. Then I saw him again when you guys were playing spin the bottle, and before I knew it, he had his tongue down my throat, and oh my God, that tongue. Then I thought we were having a good conversation…an actual conversation, and he just bailed without anything.”

Casey’s brows tugged together. “You think he was high?”

“Maybe. Hopefully, I guess. He asked me what hotel we were staying at and said he’d look me up.”

“Aw, man.” Steve sounded as suspicious as I was that anything could possibly come of that. “That’s a shitty way to try and get rid of a guy.”

“Isn’t it, though? Oh well, it was hot, and that kiss was easily a ten.”

“A ten?” Casey asked. “From where I was sitting, it looked like a fifteen.”

“Yeah, I saw how you pointed the bottle to yourself. What did you think he was going to do, suddenly leap over the table and plant another one on you?”

“Hey, it was worth a try. If you’d seen what I’d seen, you would have gone for it too.”

I laughed. Despite my friends taking the edge off, I was still struggling to understand all that had happened. I’d totally thought Oscar and I were hitting it off.

I didn’t know why I figured I suddenly understood what was going on between us when I hadn’t understood a goddamn thing about anything that had happened since Sexy Robin had walked into my life.

Stop acting all butt-hurt over something so stupid.

I’d been rejected by guys before, and that was part of being new to coming out. I needed to get used to it and suck it up and accept that’s the way the world worked.

Kendra slid between us, a drink in one hand and a phone in another. “Hey, do you know where your friend went?”

“My friend?”

She glared at me. “Your ‘friend,’” she said, imitating imaginary quotes in the air. “His mate left his phone on the bar. He got a call and then was in a hurry. Guess it didn’t fit in those sexy tights he was wearing.”

“They went looking for someone,” I explained.

“Hey, what’s up?” Lana asked as she joined us.

“Sexy Redhead left his phone on the bar. I assumed Keeg would have Robin’s phone number so we could text him and let him know.”

Of course, considering everything that had happened and that they’d seen me chatting with him, it was embarrassing to report that I had not, in fact, gotten his digits.

FML.

“Peter Pan said something about heading back to Town Square,” Lana added.

“I can give him his phone back,” I volunteered.

I shouldn’t have wanted to do it, but I knew what my intentions were, and clearly Kendra did too as she turned to me with a big smile on her face.

“I bet you will. Here. Go find him, and don’t come back without a number this time, okay?”

Everyone laughed, but it was now or never.

“Deal,” I said, taking Peter Pan’s phone.

I left the bar and headed back to Town Square, determined as hell to at least get Oscar to admit he wasn’t interested.

The Square wasn’t nearly as packed as it had been before the King’s speech. A few street vendors were still operating, and some drunk, costumed people clustered in groups. I didn’t see Oscar straight away, so I checked nearby alleys before finding my Sexy Robin crouched before a young girl, who must’ve been who he and Peter Pan had gone searching for.
