“So, we need the right size condoms—”

“No shit. Of course you’re a magnum guy.”

“The right size is less likely to break.” Again with the practical. I was so romantic. “And good lube is going to be key too.”

“Yeah. Lotion wears off fast and gets gummy,” Avery mused like a guy who knew what he was talking about.

“You do know I’m going to make you show me how you finger yourself?”

“Can’t.” Avery made a sour face. “I haven’t been able to get the correct angle with my left hand. Probably need more yoga, less weight room, but whatever it is, I can’t seem to duplicate the couple of times I did it with my right.”

“But you could talk me through it?” I wiggled my fingers in front of us, loving how he chuckled.

“Deal. I do love borrowing your right hand.”

“It’s yours, baby.” I gave him a much more thorough kiss. “We can practice. See if we find the magic angle.”

“Damn, I must want this. Just that word got me hard.”

“Practice?” I grinned at him. “Practice. Practice. Practice!”

“Jerk.” He shook his head. “It’s a good thing you’re so sexy.”

“Hey, no complimenting me while I’m still taking notes.” The temptation to set aside the research and jump Avery right then was quickly mounting to DEFCON 1. But I was also serious about finding ways to make things good for Avery and not scary.

Frowning, Avery glanced down at my paper. “Dude, are you seriously taking notes on positions?”

“Apparently, some are better for first-timers. And then there’s your arm situation to consider. And I wanted to compare a few of the recommended lube brands before we order…”

“Wow.” Avery goggled at me, eyes wide and mouth open. “I think I see why the intelligence brass recruited you so hard. You take your research seriously.”

“And you thought I was merely sexy.” I tickled his side lightly. “I’ve got brains too.”

“I’m not sure I’ve ever dated someone so smart.” Avery’s forehead wrinkled adorably. “Not that we’re dating…”

“Hey, I’m happy to raise your standards.” I shrugged like the dating comment was no biggie, but it might be nice if Avery didn’t feel the need to clarify every time one of us said something that made this thing between us sound serious. But we were laughing and having so much fun that right then wasn’t the moment to have that conversation, so instead, I tickled him, more deliberately this time.

“No fair!” He yelped and wriggled away from me, but super slowly like he was hoping I’d give chase, which I did, only for him to deftly spin at the last second and pin me to the bed. “Ha! Got you! Now let’s see who’s ticklish.”

He grinned down at me, all devilish glee.

“You sure you want to wrestle with me?” I pitched my voice all action-hero low and deadly calm.

“Because you need to do more research?” Avery stuck out his tongue, a deliberate pout. Oh yeah, he wanted to wrestle and play.

“That, and I might win.” I grinned back. “And maybe we need more of that talk about safe words and—”

“Red. I promise I’ll remember if I truly need to tap out, but no way in hell am I letting you think you can win.”

“Oh no?” I wiggled against the bed, testing his hold.

“Give me twenty seconds to remove my ungodly pricey arm, and then I wanna see what you got, superior officer.”

“It’s on.” I obediently lay still while he removed his prosthesis and carefully set it on the other bed before jumping back on top of me. “And trust me, officers get hand-to-hand training too.”

“Ha.” He scoffed at me. “That’s nothing. I’ve got an older brother and a sister who liked to bite. I was littler than either of them, but I learned to be quick.”

“And devious, no doubt.” I grinned even as he used his knee for leverage. I kept the grin in place as I waited for the perfect moment as he shifted his weight forward and—

“Holy shit. You flipped me.” He stared down at me.

“I was bullied in middle school. My mom put me in Aikido classes after school to teach me discipline and give me more confidence and control. I was a black belt before the navy ever got to me.”

“Damn.” He whistled. “You’ve been holding out on me.”

“Yep.” My grin widened. I’d sparred plenty, but never like this.

“Come on. Show me what you’ve really got.” Expression going impish, he reached up and tickled my armpit.

“Gladly.” We grappled together, me on top, then him, then me again, him facedown under me, both of us breathing like an express train.

“Fuck. Why am I so hard?” Avery didn’t sound like that was a complaint. Or a question, for that matter.

“No idea, but me too. Not sure when I was last this turned on.” I lowered my weight a bit more to grind against his plump ass. Thanks to Avery, I kept uncovering new kinks. I’d done a hell of a lot of Aikido practice over the years and never once gotten hard, nor had I ever had the desire to hip-check a sex partner, but first time for everything. There was something unbelievably freeing about how silly I could be with Avery, knowing he could meet me laugh for laugh and strength for strength. He might let me spank him or pin him, but the key there was let—a huge part of my turn-on was knowing he could totally kick my ass if he truly tried.
