You’ve got this, Courtney.

“It’s gorgeous, Alberto, you’ve outdone yourself.” Turning so I can admire the back of the skirt, I see massive amounts of gold gauze trailing behind me. I’m actually going to need Rachel to walk with us, if only to straighten the back of my skirt for the photo ops.

This is going to be great. The start of my new career. I’m shedding the girl band mentality and letting the world see me. All this that I’m feeling is just normal nerves. Not only is this a big night with me performing, and being nominated, but Ammo is going to be with me.

Hopefully. Where the hell is he?

AMMO

The Disciples’ Clubhouse, Burbank, California

“Look, I’m at the clubhouse now,” I growl into the phone at Ace because it’s been nothing but one thing after another this morning. I woke up to my phone blowing up with Malcolm and Rafe freaking out about another package showing up, this time at the studio. Same type of box that was left at Courtney’s.

Photos of me and Court, and the tell-all book that Olivia Todd, my ex, wrote.

Christ, when I met Olivia, she was a model, strung out on heroin and wanting nothing more than to be a groupie and travel with the band.

We hooked up, and she was around for about six months, and when I kicked her ass to the curb, she got bitter, or maybe she just got sober enough to write the book, sprinkling in just enough truths to make it go straight to the bestsellers’ list.

At first I ignored it. It’s not like this is the first girl I fucked who turned crazy. She was just the first to make a profit off of it.

She played the victim all the way to the bank. I could have sued. After all, her big sob chapter that she told over and over to anyone who would put her on TV was that she walked in on me going down on her best friend. And that betrayal gave her so much turmoil she had no choice but to find solace with Granger, Nuke, then Cash.

The truth was… I had been fucking both Oliva and Harper for a solid week, all of us holed up in my hotel room, doing too much cocaine and getting each other off.

Olivia turned mean when I had a show to do and said no more blow.

Never tell a junkie no.

That being said, having this book being sent to Courtney with highlighted quotes about what a dick I was when I was a young and stupid is not making me happy.

None of it is. I thought Ace would be able to find this fucker, but here I am walking into the fucking Disciples’ clubhouse.

“Ammo, I told you and Rafe earlier, we can hire a private investigator—we just need to be careful.” Ace sighs.

“Also, there’s a houseful of people getting Courtney and Melanie ready for the Grammys. You only told me about her hairstylist, which I checked out, and he just so happens to be partners with Edge’s wife, Dolly.”

I hesitate on my bike as I look around at the massive property. I’ve been here countless times before; Granger and I would show up for parties years ago. The Disciples know how to rage, they’re the fucking real deal, and they make no apologies about it, which I respect.

The whole competition thing with Axel was always fun, but right now I need him and his brothers. Somehow Blade’s been able to keep this MC one of the most powerful and feared clubs, well, ever.

That being said, this is probably the first time I’ve been here sober, solo, and in the daylight. The green lawn and orange trees give the impression this place is way more peaceful than it is.

Yeah, Blade McCormick might very well be a fucking genius.

I nod at a couple Disciples who are working on their bikes as I get off mine and start toward the large porch, scattered with numerous cameras and Disciples laughing and smoking as I approach.

“Is that a big deal?” I ask Ace, lowering the cell. “’Sup? Axel or Blade inside?”

The big bearded one I don’t recognize looks at me, then says, “Hold on, Ammo.” He grunts and kicks open the screen door.

“Ammo, do not get shot. Look, it’s just weird, it’s like six degrees of separation or something. I told you I can find a PI to use.” Ace’s voice floods my ear as I grin, poor Ace. I’ve completely uprooted his relatively normal life protecting Granger and Gia while the Stuffed Muffins are in between projects.

“Ace, relax. You told me earlier we need Axel.”

“I did. But I didn’t think you would go there alone. I go way back with Axel, I should have gotten in contact with him.”

“Fuck that. I may have to beat the shit out of him, but at the end of the day I’ll get him on board.”
