He considered turning the conversation on Tarson and asking how close he was to Daisy, but decided against it. Not his business. Tarson had insinuated the two of them were friends. They both belonged to the same club. There was no reason to believe they had a relationship outside of the club.

Just because Tarson had said he would spank Daisy’s bottom didn’t mean he would do so in his home or hers. He might have been speaking of setting up a scene with her at Blaze to exact the disciplinary action.

“I’m happy for you, Garrett. Ellie’s a sweet Little girl.”

“Yes, she is. Thank you for calling. I’ll stop by Daisy’s shop tomorrow and touch base with her.”

“I’ll be around. I don’t like the idea of four thugs harassing anyone on that strip. I’ll pop in and out of the shops and keep an eye on things for the next few days before I start working at Little Cakes.”

“Thank you. The extra set of eyes will be appreciated.”

“No problem. Talk to you soon.”

Garrett set the phone in his lap and tipped his head back toward the sky, smiling at the stars just beginning to show themselves. He loved that he’d created a nighttime environment for his Ellie. She’d seemed pleased. Hopefully, she would be able to sleep better and start a new routine that would be healthier for her.

Finally, he rose and went back inside. He needed to prep a smoothie for her to eat in the morning on the run, and then he needed to get to bed himself. If he was going to get Ellie up each morning at three-thirty, he would need to adjust his schedule and get to bed earlier, too.

It wouldn’t be a hardship. He’d been a morning person for years. Early morning practices to avoid extreme heat had forced him to learn to get up before the crack of dawn when he’d played football. He’d never fully shaken the imbedded routine from his system.

Granted, three-thirty was earlier than he was used to, but for his Little he would make it his new schedule. After all, what was he going to do in the evenings after Ellie went to bed anyway?

After prepping for the morning smoothie, he turned out the lights in the kitchen and padded down the hall. He stopped to check on Ellie, pushing the door open a few inches and smiling as he listened to her snoring.

He could stand there all night and listen to her, but he eased the door almost closed again and headed for his own room. After he showered, Garrett remembered her suitcase. He tiptoed into her room with a stack of clothes and set them on top of the dresser. Putting them inside the drawers could wait until tomorrow.

Chapter Twelve

“Sleepy girl, it’s time to wake up,” a deep voice crooned next to her.

“Ten minutes more,” she pleaded, turning over to face the wall.

“It’s time to get up, Little girl. You slept well in your crib last night. Think of all the cupcakes waiting for you at the bakery.”

“I love cupcakes,” she mumbled.

“I love your cupcakes, too. Could you make one for me without frosting?” he asked, tugging the blanket from her warm body.

Ellie whirled around to look at him incredulously. Instantly, she was completely awake. “You don’t like frosting?”

“I like the cake better,” he confessed.

“Cake is good,” she allowed as she sat up and cooperated as he lifted her to the ground. “But there has to be a law somewhere that cupcakes have to be frosted.”

“Potty,” he instructed, helping her with a firm squeeze, compressing her tummy and lower back toward her core.

A faint hiss in her diaper had Ellie talking to cover the revealing sound. “You’d really like a naked cupcake?”

“Yes. I like the sound of that. Maybe you should sell those, too. Maybe they would appeal to health-conscious customers,” Garrett suggested as he led her to the changing table.

Contemplating that possibility, Ellie laid still as her Daddy changed her diaper and helped her hop down to stand. Feeling the air, she brushed her hand over her bare bottom. “Don’t I need a diaper?”

“Panties to go to work, Little girl. Diaper at home.”

Ellie almost felt sad as her Daddy helped her step into her regular cotton panties and leggings. As he fastened her bra, she looked over her shoulder. “Did you unpack for me?” she asked.

“I did. Is this one okay?” he asked, holding up a bright blue T-shirt.

“Sure.” Ellie held her arms up so he could drop it over her and smooth the material into place.

She held still as Garrett brushed her hair and gathered it into a high ponytail that would stay out of the way as she worked. Ellie loved his care. It made her feel cherished and special. Tears gathered in her eyes. When he turned her around, they rolled down her cheeks.
